Position Summary
The Racial Equity Associate will provide strategic, research, and writing support to the Racial Equity team at GroundBreakers. Racial Equity Associates will work closely with the Racial Equity team as well as help coordinate with the Media team. This position will report to the Team Lead of Network Engagement & Media at GroundBreakers.
As a Racial Equity Fellow for GroundBreakers, your duties would include:
Conducting needs assessments with racial equity leaders to help inform the most relevant and impactful programming possible;
Conducting research on successful implementation of antiracism practices within nonprofits and social movements;
Conducting research and surveys to inform the Racial Equity Guidebook as a resource centralizing best practices for leaders and grassroots organizations;
Supporting event planning and management for the Racial Equity Roundtable Series;
Collaborating with the GroundBreakers Media Team on promoting content and engaging the GroundBreakers network of local leaders.

+ Build products developers love. Conduct two to four product rotations embedded within one of GitHub's core product teams. **Compensation Range**
The base salary range for this job is USD $33.17 - USD $87.93 /Hr.

From contributing to our design system to shaping inclusive workflows, you'll bring empathy, creativity, and curiosity to every problem. You'll collaborate with designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers to build thoughtful, equitable, and innovative solutions. You'll also explore how inclusive design principles can be applied to emerging technologies, like AI-enhanced developer tools, to ensure they work for everyone.
This internship is more than a chance to learn accessibility standards, it's a unique opportunity to influence one of the most widely used developer platforms in the world. This is a remote summer internship for 12 consecutive weeks with start dates between May- June 2026.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, and product partners to design experiences that work for a wide variety of users.
* Design and iterate on inclusive user flows, components, and UI patterns.
* Annotate accessibility specs and intent of designs in Figma.
* Help evolve our inclusive design practices, including contributions to accessibility reviews, usability testing, and inclusive research.
* Contribute to documentation and design guidance related to inclusivity and accessibility.
* Learn and apply WCAG accessibility standards, but go beyond compliance to advocate for human-centered design decisions.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Accessibility Studies, or a related field, with at least one term remaining post-internship.
* A portfolio demonstrating thoughtful design work with an eye toward inclusion and accessibility.
* Experience with designing equitable experiences that consider diverse user needs and contexts through internships, academic projects, research, or equivalent work.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience using design tools such as Figma and the ability to document accessibility specifications and annotations.
* Curiosity about emerging technologies such as AI, and how they impact inclusive and accessible design.
* Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design frameworks (e.g., WCAG, POUR principles, or Microsoft Inclusive Design toolkit).

Compensation Range
The base salary range for this job is USD $33.17 - USD $87.93 /Hr.

* Build products developers love. Conduct two to four product rotations embedded within one of GitHub's core product teams. The Reporter Video Student Intern will be a vital member of the team, assisting in producing and independently editing video stories featuring The Athletic's reporters. The intern will also work across teams, including working with highlights and social video. A solid background in video editing and visual journalism is required, as well as an interest in all sports The Athletic covers. This is not an on camera position.
Leon H. Carter is the Editor at Large at The Athletic. Prior to joining The Athletic in 2021, he was a VP at ESPN. He also worked 15 years at the NY Daily News. Under his leadership, the NYDN won numerous national awards. In 1993, he helped create the Sports Journalism Institute to improve diversity at media outlets. In 2022, he received the Red Smith Award, one of the highest honors in sports journalism.
