Job Overview: This position provides the opportunity to enter at a junior level and to learn real estate and finance, with an emphasis on residential construction. Key job responsibilities include: underwriting real estate; underwriting borrowers; and helping to process, fulfill, and service loans. The work environment is supportive and friendly but demanding. It enables those with initiative and talent to stand out. A successful Loan Underwriter may quickly grow responsibility and compensation. One potential path of progression is to a sales/originations role, working with existing and potential clients to originate loans. Qualifications: The success of BFI is based on originating loans that repay. Attention to detail is critical. This position will require moderate Excel, Word, and Outlook skills which can be learned on the job. BFI does not cold-call clients and in-person client meetings are infrequent. Nonetheless, strong interpersonal skills and comfort on the phone will become necessary. BFI embraces a strong service-based culture. The Loan Underwriter should expect to work 45 hours in a typical week, or roughly 8:15-5:45 with half an hour off for lunch. Certain days/weeks will require greater hours. There will be minimal to zero travel. * Education: A bachelor's degree. Please include GPA with resume submission and any other school and standardize testing scores you feel relevant. * Experience: No experience required. Preference given to those with demonstrated real estate and/or sales experience. * Location: BFI's main office is in downtown Sioux Falls, SD. Remote work is not offered at the Loan Underwriter position. * Compensation: Salary and benefits plus a sign-on bonus. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA certification preferred). * 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate, banking, or public accounting environment. * Preference for candidates with experience in fixed assets, accounts payable intercompany accounting, and international accounting. * Experience with Oracle NetSuite is a plus. * Strong knowledge of GAAP. * Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills. * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. * Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across teams.
