**Title:** Loan Underwriter

**Job Overview:**

Builder Finance Inc. ("BFI") provides business purpose loans on residential real estate including houses, townhouses, and 2+ unit structures. Loan programs fit into two basic categories as detailed at BuilderFinance.com: (1) Construction loans that let borrowers build/renovate and sell housing to generate a profit upon sale. (2) Rental loans that let borrowers own housing to generate recurring rental income.

BFI is an entrepreneurial organization that, since its 2014 launch, has exhibited tremendous growth. Consistent with that, the offered position provides the opportunity to enter at a junior level and - pending performance - to quickly grow responsibility and compensation.

The offered position is for someone looking to learn and excel at real estate, especially residential real estate. Initial work is fairly structured and focused on underwriting real estate and underwriting the people responsible for it. It is also focused on processing and servicing loans based on that underwriting. As the hire becomes fluent in real estate and real estate lending, the hire should expect to grow into a more external facing role, interacting directly with borrowers and helping originate more loans.

The success of BFI is based on originating loans that repay. Construction loans are inherently complicated. Work is demanding. Attention to detail and critical thinking skills are musts. Strong communication and interpersonal skills especially on the phone is also necessary. Familiarity with Excel, Word and Outlook is helpful. While the team is collegial there is limited "hand-holding", top performers are ambitious and take initiative to learn and improve their value to the organization.

BFI embraces a strong service-based culture. The Loan Underwriter should expect to work 45-50 hours of work per week. A typical day is 8:15-6:00, with half an hour off for lunch. There will be minimal to zero travel.Subject to mutually-agreed upon scheduling, some working hours may be shifted to "off-times": mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends to provide better customer coverage.

**Qualifications:**

+ **Education:** **A bachelor's degree with minimum 3.5 GPA.** Please include cumulative GPA with resume submission and any other school or standardize testing scores you feel relevant.

+ **Experience:** No experience required. Preference given to those with real estate experience and/or strong technical skills in Microsoft Office.

+ **Compensation:** First year compensation of $47,500 is intended to be at market. Pending performance, year two compensation intended to be above market with the opportunity for a base salary increase and a bonus.

**We provide a highly competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits program including affordable medical/dental/vision insurance, generous paid leave program, 401(k), health savings account, tuition reimbursement, financial childcare assistance and much more!**
