So,... are you ready? JOB SUMMARY: Provide support to the EREC Beef Cattle Unit. Support and participate in herd management including health maintenance, feeding, breeding, calving and general herd maintenance. Assist in hay production and other agronomic activities including but not limited to planting and caring for pastures. Assist in maintenance and upkeep of beef cattle facilities. Assist in other cattle and forage activities as assigned. JOB DUTIES: 40% - Essential - Animal Care Oversight: Performs routine health checks and monitors status of herd; performs feeding duties; performs herd maintenance duties including vaccinations and treatment of sick animals; assist in breeding program; assist in calving and care of young animals. 20% - Essential - Facility Maintenance: Builds, repairs, and provides maintenance for the Beef Cattle Unit facilities including corrals and fence lines. 20% - Essential - Feed Production: Plants, cultivates and harvests crops and forages utilized as feed and grazing for livestock; maintains pastures with spraying, fertilization and mowing. 10% - Essential - Support for Data Collection, Research, and Educational Activities: Assist and support forages and livestock research projects as needed including plot preparation, pasture establishment; and collecting data on cattle when directed by the Supervisor. Assist with organization of field days and other education activities. 10% - Essential - Support programs of EREC: Assist as needed and as directed with the general operation and maintenance of EREC. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education - Bachelor's Degree - Animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Education - 1st Master's Degree - Horticulture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or related field, plus experience in agriculture. Work Experience - 2+ years RESPONSIBILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE Firm Job Knowledge - Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 50% - Stand for prolonged period 50% - Walk or move about 25% - Use hands or feet to operate or handle machinery, equipment, etc 10% - Ascend or descend (i.e. stairs, ladder) 10% - Position self to accomplish task (i.e. stoop, kneel, crawl) 50% - Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself 50% - Recognize or inspect visually 25% - Move, transport, raise or lower 50% - Extends hands or arms in any direction 75% - Perceive, observe, clarity of vision WORKING CONDITIONS: 50% - Exposure to heat or cold 10% - Exposure to dust/fumes 20% - Wet or humid 25% - Noise 20% - Vibration WORK SCHEDULE: Standard Hours: 37.5 COMPENSATION INFORMATION Anticipated Salary Range: $37,500 - $50,000 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines. ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL Essential Level 2 employee Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
