MilkRun

I am the founder and CEO of MilkRun, an online marketplace and distribution technology that makes it easy to buy food directly from local farmers. I started MilkRun in 2018 in Portland, OR after becoming a small farmer and purchasing a USDA meat-processing facility, Revel Meat Co, which serves 60 regional ranchers. Because of this experience, I quickly realized the challenges producers face selling and delivering quality product to restaurants and customers in the community. Surprisingly, 90% of every dollar spent on food in the US goes towards packaging and distribution costs, and that inefficiency is our opportunity. MilkRun launched as an efficient, profitable way for farmers to bring their goods from rural areas into urban markets. Since then, we bootstrapped our way to $600k GMV a month in sales and became a retail channel for over 120 food producers in the PNW. Social Impact Capital joined us in 2020, and in the same month, we joined the Techstars Anywhere Program. In June, we joined Y Combinator and launched our new subscription model in our second market, Seattle, where we are experiencing 25% growth week-over-week. In July, we closed $2.2M in funding with the support of Congruent VC, Techstars Ventures, Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, Social Impact Capital, Band of Angels, UntappedVC, and many other incredible partners. We are now preparing to scale nationally, building an incredible team of all-stars who are passionate about disrupting the industrialized food system and looking for partners in the retail, automotive and logistics industries. We are MilkRun and we are building the future of how people will buy food from farmers. Thanks for reading my story and I hope to connect! - Julia
