Salary: Starting at $55,000 with more being offered based on years of experience, education, and certifications.

Position Description:

A Distinctive Middle School Teacher will inspire young minds, build strong interpersonal relationships with students and share a commitment to ensuring that every child achieves their full potential. This person will:

* Design, prepare and deliver dynamic lesson plans and instructional materials that engage students in 21st century learning experiences
* Provide opportunities that challenge students to think critically
* Create a developmentally appropriate, positive, inclusive and safe learning environment
* Has a mindset of using restorative justice approach with discipline
* Monitor progress to ensure all students are demonstrating high rates of growth
* Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
* Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse social-emotional, cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
* Work closely with team members and parents to best meet the needs to students

Who We Are

Launching the first public charter school network to serve the incredibly vibrant and diverse South Nashville community, in 2010 our team set out to do what everyone told our Founder couldn't be done: provide a rigorous, inquiry-based STEM education for Nashville's structurally underrepresented subgroups, preparing each student, regardless of home language or immigration status, to graduate from college. Nearly a decade after our doors opened to our founding 5th grade class, we operate two fully built out high-performing schools serving the highest percentage of limited english proficiency students in our sector: STEM Prep Academy Middle School (grades 5-8) and STEM Prep High School (grades 9-12). In 2014, we expanded our impact to launch one of the largest newcomer programs in the country, the Nashville Newcomer Academy, serving new arrival immigrant and refugee students and their families from around the world.

Today, our team is comprised of over 100 of the most tenacious, persistent, and mission-aligned teachers, leaders, and support staff working to secure the college-graduation mission for each and every one of our students and their families. Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Teacher believes in, and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success.

What you'll need to accomplish:

* Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment

* Build professional knowledge

* Organize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning

* Develop and maintain IATs (lesson plans)

* Establish an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college

* Develop lesson plans according to the California state standards

* Prepare lesson plans for substitutes

* Build strong relationships with students and parents

* Communicate with parents/guardians on a weekly basis

* Identify student's areas for improvement and work with the student, family, and internal resources to suggest options for improvement

* Provide continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided time frames

* Conduct both student and teacher lead parent conferences

* Collaborate with the Inclusion Specialist to meet the needs of all students

* Attend and participate in Academic Success Team, Parent/Teacher Advisory Council, and other school-based meetings and activities

* Perform disseminated leadership duties

* Attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year

* Demonstrate support and knowledge of school's goals and mission

* Detail-oriented when tracking students' grades, attendance, etc.

* Work with the Principal and Assistant Principal to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards

* Attend and participate in school-based meetings and activities

* Perform other duties as assigned

What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required

* Master's degree in subject matter field or Education is strongly preferred

* Possess a current California teaching credential in the appropriate field/subject or be enrolled in a credentialing/internship program at a college/university is highly preferred

* Completed California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) required

Experience:

* Solid knowledge of the subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments

Skills and Abilities

* Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

* Able to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data

* Alignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity

* Must be flexible and team-oriented

* Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

* Bilingual in Spanish preferred

* Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work

* Regular attendance, dependability and, punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position

Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below.
