Position Description:

A Distinctive Middle School Teacher will inspire young minds, build strong interpersonal relationships with students and share a commitment to ensuring that every child achieves their full potential. This person will:

* Design, prepare and deliver dynamic lesson plans and instructional materials that engage students in 21st century learning experiences
* Provide opportunities that challenge students to think critically
* Create a developmentally appropriate, positive, inclusive and safe learning environment
* Has a mindset of using restorative justice approach with discipline
* Monitor progress to ensure all students are demonstrating high rates of growth
* Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
* Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse social-emotional, cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
* Work closely with team members and parents to best meet the needs to students

The Goodwin University Magnet School System in East Hartford is actively searching for a Middle Grades (6-8) STEMTeacher to join our dynamic team of educators. An ideal candidate is someone who has an ability to motivate students from diverse backgrounds and interests. The Middle Grades STEM Teacher will be responsible for implementing the STEM program at the CT River Middle Grades Program. This position is responsible for collaborating with teachers in promoting interdisciplinary STEM activities into the core curriculum at the middle school levels. RESPONSIBILITIES: The STEM Teacher shall:

+ Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods.

+ Attends professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.

+ Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.

+ Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.

+ Works directly with school administrators and staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEM initiatives and curriculum.

+ Organizes, develops, and coordinates special STEM events/activities.

+ Coaches teachers on STEM initiatives and instructional best practices in the STEM areas.

+ Serves as liaison to prospective or selected STEM vendors, to determine the best resources, options and innovations that will optimize the learning experience for students and staff.

+ Initiates new programs that support the STEM vision.

+ Shares STEM events and activities through social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

+ Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred, and certification in appropriate area of instruction.

+ Work experience in meeting the needs of racially, ethnically, socioeconomically and linguistically diverse groups of youth is desirable.

+ Prior STEM teaching experience desirable.

+ CSDE Certification in Science 7-12 (034) or 4-8 (234), Math 7-12 (029) or 4-8 (229) or Technology Education (047).
