I had many friendly, smart, and motivated colleagues who I enjoyed working with.
92Y has a toxic work culture, and HR/management literally refuse to address issues with particular under-qualified Directors. Certain Directors are known for disorganization, impeding efficiency, taking credit for work they haven't done, and being absolutely nasty, even cruel, to their subordinates. Promotions are arbitrary and often dependent on being friendly with your manager. This results in a high turnover rate for admin positions and a generally depressing atmosphere. Only some people's birthdays are celebrated and only some are given farewell parties. There's no attempt at team building, no private bathrooms, no place to eat lunch, and when on rare occasions something like pizza is ordered for lunch, it's announced right before it's delivered, which is just awkward and indicative of the general disorder.
The May Center gym is fantastic- with a pool and lots of great classes- and you get a free membership.
work life balance; colleagues; the arts programming
location; low pay for the work and results expected (common for a nonprofit, but they make a considerable profit on events and the preschool)
