The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated ability to manage complex Bills of Materials with multiple levels and 50+ components, and resolve conflicts that arise from balancing multiple priorities. This position reports to the Director of Manufacturing for Systems Products. Key Responsibilities include: Collaborate daily with operations management, purchasing, logistics, and shop supervision to set and meet production goals. Provide leadership and day to day supervision to a small team of buyer-planners. Develop and communicate lead times for new order and committed ship dates to the sales organization based upon uncommitted material and availability of capacity.     BOYD is looking for a Thermal Research and Design Engineer to join our Design Center team here in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. This region of NH offers many year-round outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, fishing, boating, etc. In this position you will help our customers find and develop creative solutions to meet their challenging thermal and mechanical design requirements. BOYD's engineering team performs mechanical, thermal, industrial, electrical design and analysis as well as product development and prototyping services. Our global engineering team consists of 350+ engineers spanning a variety of fields and disciplines. Our clientele represent a wide spectrum of industries spanning from telecommunications, medical devices, server and data center, aerospace, power, consumer products and beyond. SUMMARY: * Conduct single and two-phase fluid flow and heat transfer research on both passive and actively pumped systems and apply those learnings to the development of new electronic cooling products. * Evaluate the most challenging electronics cooling applications with customers and propose highest performing design concepts using single and two-phase flow. * Conduct theoretical thermal and mechanical analyses, design sizing, and CFD/FEA simulations. Interpret and communicate results and recommend the best design approach. * Design and conduct heat transfer experiments, collect and reduce test data, analyze and interpret test results, communicate methods and results, adapt findings to improve design and CFD models, recommend design adjustments if needed. * Collaborate with colleagues and help solve multidisciplinary technical challenges. * Assisting with writing design proposals, marketing materials, and technical papers. * Select components and materials for cooling products and solutions. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Conduct thermal research, design, and engineering projects to support the company's business. * Prepare technical proposals to support soliciting funding for research in areas of interest to the Company. * Support building collaborative relationships between industry and academic partners to support research in areas of interest to the Company. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education and Training * M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, graduate level work in two-phase flow and heat transfer theoretical, experimental and computational methods. Strong foundation in other heat transfer modes like conduction, convection, and radiation. * Familiarity with research publications and literature in the above topical areas. * Hands on work in a heat transfer research or test lab. Experience * A strong understanding of the fundamental physics of heat transfer, mass transfer, and fluid flow including two-phase flow and heat transfer. * Familiarity with heat transfer experimental methods and instrumentation. * Familiarity with modeling and conducting CFD simulations preferably including two-phase flow and heat transfer. * Demonstrated initiative and independent problem-solving capabilities. * Ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. * Exceptional organization, coordination, and consultation skills. This person would work with a small team of mechanical, refrigeration and manufacturing engineers to bring the new product though its full product development process, which includes early concepts thru production support. Partner with service management to participate in failure analysis activities, compile data and reduce product failure modes. Establish and implement process for addressing and resolving customer product quality issues in a timely manner. Drive CAPA through the organization to ensure that any findings or non-conformances are addressed quickly. · Participate in the development of customer prototypes to ensure customer requirements are met · Coordinate and complete all First Article submittals to customers. Define inspection processes, requirements, frequency and sampling internally and through sub tiers. Drive improvements at key and critical suppliers to ensure high quality materials. Ensure that the Boyd (Billerica) QMS meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. Work with organization to ensure all customer responses, correspondence and submittals are completed on time.
