    SUMMARY: This position is responsible for working with clients and families program to help them find and obtain stable housing. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Works collaboratively with families and individuals experiencing homelessness to help them establish housing goals and obtain independent housing. Provides clients with appropriate housing opportunities. Assists clients with navigating the administrative bureaucracy surrounding housing, such as obtaining necessary paperwork and completing required applications and forms. Establishes and maintains relationships with landlords and property management companies to facilitate better identification of available housing opportunities. Ensures required case management documentation and forms are completed. Creates case notes, track, and monitor clients' progress to provide support and ensure their housing goals are met. Works with property owners and representatives to obtain required documents in support of financial assistance requests. Views, inspects, and evaluates potential housing locations to ensure they are well-maintained and appropriate for client habitation. Travels as required. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer skills required: Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); and Keyboarding. Other skills required: 3+ years of case management experience with Rapid Rehousing, Housing First, or other federal housing program preferred. Knowledge of general principles and approaches for providing services to individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity, substance addiction, interpersonal trauma, and criminal justice involvement. Knowledge of HUD programs, resources, opportunities, and regulations. Knowledge of local community programs, resources, opportunities, and regulations. Each year our attorneys, volunteers, and staff help resolve civil legal problems, including domestic violence, consumer fraud, and unfair evictions. Legal Aid Chicago was founded on the philosophy that all individuals are entitled to quality civil legal representation, regardless of their income. We work to ensure that poverty is not an impediment to justice. Legal Aid Chicago offers a hybrid work environment. Our office, located in downtown Chicago, is ADA accessible and has convenient access to public transportation and local expressways. This position will require travel to court, meetings, and other outreach events in the greater Chicago area. The Children & Families Practice Group advocates for students whose right to an education is threatened, represents survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in protective order and domestic relations cases against their abusers, and defends parents against unwarranted intrusions by the State into their right to parent. Position: Legal Aid Chicago has an opening for a full-time supervisory attorney in the Children & Families Practice Group with an immediate start date. This attorney will work primarily on the family defense team, which works to protect families from unwarranted intrusion by the state child welfare system. Attorneys with experience advocating on behalf of individuals in family defense, criminal matters, or other forms of state intrusion are encouraged to apply. Most common casework includes representing parents and caregivers in: DCFS investigations and related legal services to prevent an indicated finding and/or the filing of a petition in juvenile court; DCFS administrative hearings seeking to expunge wrongful indicated findings of abuse/neglect; Service appeals in which our client has a legal right to appeal a placement or service decision with DCFS; and Juvenile court cases involving systemic issues of particular concern to Legal Aid Chicago's client population including poverty-based allegations of neglect, domestic violence, the State's provision of reasonable efforts to assist in reunification, and the fundamental right to due process. Responsibilities include: Maintain a reduced individual caseload of family defense cases and provide full and effective legal representation to parents and caregivers. Provides comprehensive and initial diagnostic assessment of all referred clients utilizing interviews and well-recognized criteria. Plans and administers therapeutic treatment if applicable in the program. Regularly discusses progress toward goals with clients and encourages client feedback and client ownership of outcomes. Ensures there is a medical rule out of symptoms and coordinates the approach with medical and other providers serving the client. Adapts clinical methodology to the needs of the client using an evaluative tool and client feedback approach to ensure client service is meeting needs, and as needs change, adapts method and degree of therapy. Collaborates with existing and future mental health-related services, supportive services treatment, and counseling. Maintains comprehensive client file with progress reports/session notes, completing assessments and CANS outcomes, closing summaries, preparing reports for court as needed, testifying in court as needed, and participating in multidisciplinary staffing as needed. Develops collaborative relationships with staff and other programs both within and outside of the agency and assume initiative in developing therapeutic groups.
