This job can be described as: Sets up and operates a full range of conventional machine shop equipment, including lathes, millers and Bridgeport's boring mills. Setting up, programming, and operating basic CNC equipment to perform work involving moderate to routine set-ups and close to critical tolerances on various material types. Performs complex and diversified machining operations. Inspects work and performs quality checks to ensure conformance to engineering drawings. Cross checks fellow machinists and advises of any quality issues. May contribute and advise engineering regarding design. Works as part of a team - must be willing to support the team and collaborate to support quality and production goals. Job Model: On-Site All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense. Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager. On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts. A typical day at work would include: Sets up and operates full range of conventional machine shop equipment, including, lathes, millers, Bridgeport's, boring mills. Sets up, programs and operates CNC equipment. Work involves moderate to complex set-ups and close to critical tolerances on various material types. Develops and fabricates fixtures as needed. Performs complex, diversified machining operations necessary to produce the Company's manufacturing products as well as experimental/prototype precision parts for field testing/test lab. Machine work is performed from standard documentation, rough sketches, preliminary drawings, verbal discussions, and samples. Inspects own work and performs quality checks to ensure conformance to engineering drawings. Cross checks fellow machinists and advises of any quality issues. Must support Chesterton Quality policies. Maintains safe and clean work area on a day-to day basis. Keeps informed of and follows machine shop safety policies and procedures. Works under general direction. No instructions needed on routine work. General guidance provided upon request for special assignments. Manufactures complex components. Advanced knowledge and understanding of all standard equipment in machine shop. Performs diversified and complex machining operations. Works on the most difficult assignments. Exercises independent judgment in determining fabrication methods to be used. Frequently required to improvise and to use shop mathematics. May contribute and advise engineering regarding design. Experience you need coming into this job: Apprentice training desirable. 10-15 years related experience in manufacturing and/or machine shop environment. Ability to read and comprehend complex engineering drawings and blueprints. Ability to set up and operate a full range of conventional machine shop equipment. Advanced mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written, verbal instructions, and sequence of events. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Hoppe Technologies, Inc. is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge projects. Responsibilities of the CNC Machinist position include, but are not limited to; Setup, run and produce quality parts on various CNC machines such as, but not limited to 3-, 4-, or 5-Axis milling or Mill-Turn (Multi-Tasking) machines. Load and unload parts, operate controls, complete basic program edits, and initial deburring of parts. Complete tool changes and resetting of tool offsets. Use job package information and drawings along with shop measurement devices and gauging to complete in-process inspection anddeterminedimensions and tolerances of in-process and finished parts. Dismantle setups and return tools, fixtures and gauging to proper location upon completion of manufacturing runs. Detect and report machine and equipment malfunctions to immediate supervisor. Communicate with supervisor for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues. Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly. Complete daily and weekly preventative maintenance checklists on assigned equipment. Within the scope of the job requirements, adhere and comply with state and federal law, the Company AS9100 quality program and procedures, company policies and Safety and Environmental regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Required Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience setting up and operating CNC machines such as milling machines, mill-turns and / or lathes in a machine shop environment. Required Skills: High School Diploma or GED. Technical/Vocational training desired. Proficient knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, and indicators. Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions. Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions Must be able to communicate in English (both oral and written) as it relates to the job Must be adaptable to a changing work environment Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication. Willing to run multiple machines independently or in a team environment.
