The Dock Supervisor plays a key role in overseeing daily operations, ensuring safety, and driving efficiency within Old Dominion's freight network. Old Dominion Freight Line is currently recruiting for a Dock Supervisor to join our OD Family Culture. This Supervisor role will successfully manage a shift or section in a service center while maintaining the department/shift and service center standards for safety, quality, efficiency, cost, service and delivery, training and development and housekeeping. The supervisor must complete the various company and government forms utilized in freight movement such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, inter-terminal movement forms (ITM's) and exception forms. Constantly uses OD's proprietary technology system permitting consistent monitoring of shipment locations as freight moves through the various terminals while communicating continuously throughout the day with associates, customers and team members verbally and through other computer operating systems.
Responsibilities:
* Monitor and evaluate the safety of each employee on a daily basis
* Monitor and evaluate the safe and efficient loading and unloading process of freight throughout the shift
* Monitors, evaluates, and teaches employees safe lifting techniques as well as uses safe lifting as needed throughout the day
* Monitor and maintain housekeeping within the shift to ensure safety and productivity
* Manages, assigns and supervises dock employees in the area to ensure proper utilization of employees, equipment, loading and unloading while meeting OD and customer expectations
* Manages all dock work schedules and time off requests
* Closely works with the Operations Manager/Assistant SVC Manager and/or Service Center Manager to ensure alignment in meeting daily/weekly/monthly and yearly business objectives
* Provide analyses, suggestions and ideas for the improvement of operations within the shift, department and facility
* Provide positive and constructive feedback to employees on a continual basis regarding ROI, MPH, Stops per hour, return shipments, missed shipments, delivery/pick up errors, and overall productivity, etc. This also includes handling disciplinary actions needed at the discretion of the supervisor
* Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance with local state, federal, .federal safety regulations, as well as OSHA compliance, and DOT compliance

* Ensures that 100% of trailers are loaded correctly to ensure safe transport of freight
* Inspects trailers throughout the day for cleanliness and to ensure correct loading/unloading techniques are being used
* Operates AS400 system, BLU system, DYMS and any other computer/internal freight monitoring systems used within the company to monitor freight movement
* Complete forklift job training knowledge and uses a forklift as necessary within the service center
* Conducts daily shift meetings
* Make quick and informed decisions based on the volume levels and communicates schedule to affected employees
* Inspects working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the area and directs the correction of any improper or adverse condition that exists
* Comprehends and ensures compliance with company and government regulations
* Works assigned shift/s as needed, must be available to work depending upon customer pick-up and delivery scheduled
Qualifications:
* High School Degree or equivalent. Some college preferred.
* Bachelor's degree preferred
* 2 years working operations experience preferably in the transportation industry
* Supervisory experience preferred
* Working knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS and BLU systems
* Knowledge of general DOT regulations
* Good verbal and written communication skills

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PALLET REPAIR OPERATORS
Will use a pneumatic nail gun, powered saw, and other powered/hand tools to repair or assemble pallets
You will be placing pallets on repair table, removing defective boards, replacing with new boards and securing boards into place.
Work requires operator to stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours) and lifting up to 75 pounds throughout entire shift

Responsibilities
Safely and securely repair pallets at a rate that meets company standards and in a manner that meets company safety standards
Operate a pry bar to detach damaged boards from the pallets
Operate a hammer, grinder and a saw to remove existing nails and use a 25 lb nail gun to nail together the components
Manually lift 70 lb pallets from a stack to a repair table
Pallet must meet and pass CHEP's quality control audit
Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area
Conduct operations in a manner which promotes safety
Comply with OSHA and MSDS Standards
Must wear all safety equipment while repairing pallets
Performs other duties as required

Job Summary
Repair company equipment in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner including performing preventative maintenance, general repairs, troubleshooting and electronic diagnostics.
Primary Responsibilities
* Build, rebuild and repair all parts of company equipment as may be required in the department
* Diagnose any mechanical, electrical or other breakdown or failure to a motor truck or related equipment
* Read precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, voltmeters, digital multi-meters, calibrators and other electronic diagnostic tools
* Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the component parts and systems on the truck or truck tractor; or the component parts and systems of the trailer or converter dolly (This requirement may not apply to body and frame specialists)
* When applicable use welding skills and knowledge of metals to complete truck repairs
* Individuals who work on converter dollies must be able to weld horizontally and vertically without air pockets in the bead
* Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations

Job Qualifications
Education:
* High School degree or equivalent
Experience:

* (Hearing/Speaking) Must be able to hear the horns of forklifts, trucks, and shouted instructions and warnings.
* Must be able to use right, left or both hands to get in and out of trucks, tight spaces, forklift, wrapping and using pallet jack or hand truck, using the steering wheel, buttons on lift gates, etc.
* Must be able to grip with right, left or both hands to use all necessary tools, to get in and out of the forklift, holding tablet, using pallet jacks or hand trucks, controlling and pushing the buttons, holding the steering wheel, etc.
* Must have good dexterity in order to use hands tools with precision to tighten bolts, remove parts, perform repairs, etc. Must also be able to pinch fingers on the right, left or both hands to utilize clip boards, utilize tablets, etc.
* (Other) Must be able to work a variety of times and shifts in order to complete necessary maintenance of equipment so the company can meet customer pick-up and delivery schedules.
* Must be able to use cognitive skills for:
* paying attention to surroundings for loose items, tools, parts, and mechanical fixtures as a part of regular maintenance activities and safety.
* long-term and short-term memory for assessing the needs of a work order, recall for where tools and parts are located and for safety.
* logic and reasoning in reading tablets, work orders, instructions, box numbers, part numbers etc.
* Auditory and visual processing to inspect equipment, driving, reading, listening for horns or shouted instructions. Must be able to see and read work orders, boxes, part numbers, and other printed materials to complete work orders and maintenance. Must be able to see and scan areas of work for debris and defects.
* Must be able to read, write and speak English.
* Ability to work in extremely hot or cold climates, ability to work in an environment where noise and odors may be present.
