CURRIES purchased its original equipment including a shear, press brake, spot welder and a punch press, complete with tooling in 1958 and the manufacturing of steel door frames began.
1962: Dixons lists on the London Stock Exchange.
By 1969, the company was utilizing 108,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space and the number of employees exceeded fifty.
Additional manufacturing space was also added with a major addition of 25,000 square feet in 1977 and the production of doors and frames became the sole focus of CURRIES.
1984: Acquisition of Currys Group by Dixons Retail.
1989: Carphone Warehouse was founded by Charles Dunstone to provide the UK with the very latest in new car-phone technology.
1994: The first Dixons Travel opens at Heathrow Airport, followed by more airport stores across the UK, providing travellers with the latest tech at the lowest prices, along with all the last-minute tech essentials needed for their journeys.
One of Jerry's many accomplishments included overseeing the acquisition of CURRIES by ASSA ABLOY in 1996.
1999: Acquisition of Norwegian-listed Elkjop Group.
2000: Carphone Warehouse lists on London Stock Exchange.
2001: Launch of currys.co.uk.
In 2004, CURRIES initiated a continuous improvement process for implementing “lean manufacturing.” Using state of the art manufacturing processes such as robotics and sophisticated laser technology, CURRIES is able to provide consistent quality products and exceptional customer support.
2010: Carphone's broadband business, TalkTalk, is separated from the parent company - Carphone Warehouse Group PLC is listed.
2014: Dixons and Carphone Warehouse complete their merger and a new company is born: Dixons Carphone.
2015: Rollout of 3-in-1, Currys, PC World and Carphone Warehouse stores.
In November 2020, Under Armour announced the launch of Curry Brand in a bid to compete with Nike's Jordan Brand.
2020: Dixons Carphone continues its transformation, innovating through the pandemic with services such as ShopLive! and drive-thru click and collect to continue to help millions of customers enjoy the technology that’s playing an ever more important role in their lives.
