Position Summary
Directly supervise and coordinate activities of production employees such as machine operators, sheet metal forming operators, and welders to ensure work schedules and commitments are achieved.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate and monitor work activities of production employees in various positions and departments to ensure materials produced meet customer specifications and company standards.
Review and monitor work schedules, assignments and production sequences to meet production goals/schedules and/or targets.
Evaluate staffing requirements, work procedures and scheduling system in order to meet budget and time constraints.
Confer with other supervisors to coordinate production activities within and/or between departments.
Maintain and monitor production data, such as time, production, cost records. May prepare management/supervisor reports of production results.

Duties and Responsibilities
Operations and Production Management
Production Oversight: Manage the daily production process (mashing, fermentation, distillation, etc.) to ensure maximum yield, quantity, and quality of ethanol and co-products.
Efficiency and Optimization: Constantly monitor plant performance metrics and implement continuous improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize downtime.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex problems related to the production process, equipment, and plant performance, including after-hours emergency response.
Equipment Management: Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs and approve proposals for equipment repair or replacement.
Inventory and Logistics: Oversee the Production Manager and help facilitate the management of raw materials (e.g., grain processing), process chemicals, and finished product inventory, as well as coordinating shipping and receiving of process inputs.
Compliance, Safety, and Quality
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all plant operations strictly comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including standards set by the EPA, OSHA, TTB, NYS DEC, and other regulatory agencies.
Safety & Health: Oversee the facility's Health and Safety manager and development and implementation of safety programs fence-to-fence, enforce safety protocols, and maintain a safe working environment.
Quality Control: Establish and enforce quality assurance/quality control programs to ensure the final product meets all industry and customer specifications.
Leadership and Administration
Team Leadership: Supervise, manage, and direct all department managers (e.g., Production, Maintenance, Lab) and staff, providing coaching, development, and performance reviews. Ability to develop a high-performing leadership team.
Budgeting and Financials: Plan, develop, and control the annual operating budget, capital expenditures, and resource allocation to meet financial objectives.
Staffing: Manage staffing schedules, lead recruitment efforts, and ensure adequate training for all employees in their assigned areas and specific job tasks.
Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on production performance, financial status, and compliance activities.
Experience and Qualifications
Education
A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related scientific/technical field is preferred.
Experience
5-10 years of progressive leadership and management experience in an operating processing plant environment, ideally with a background in ethanol, biofuels, or related chemical/biochemical industries.
Strong knowledge of fermentation, distillation, dehydration, and related processes in a dry-mill ethanol plant.
Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) is preferred.

Education

Certification, Registration, and Licensure
Licensure Required: Valid New Hampshire Driver's License. Driving record from Department of Motor Vehicles, and proof of insurance coverage, which complies with organization and departmental Driving Policy. CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager) designation from the American Hospital Association.
Experience
4 years experience in field. 2 years progressive supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team as well as be a team member. Appropriate certifications, licenses or registrations when/where required. Must be familiar with federal, state, and local codes and standards including but not limited to DNV, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and building codes.
Responsibilities
Plan, organize, manage, and control the activities of the plant operations and maintenance functions which are necessary in maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, utilities, and grounds
Together with the Project Operations Manager plan, organize and manage all components of facility related projects, capital and minor.
Assist in the management of space allocation throughout the entire enterprise. Participates in the Space Committee.
Maintain performance improvement activities within the department, while providing oversight and education to various department functions.
Responsible for the development and regular updates of policies and procedures relative to DNV (CMS Accreditation), federal, state, and local codes, and other regulatory agencies.
Ensures compliance with state, local and federal regulatory requirements.
Recommend strategy for procurement of energy (natural gas and electricity) and development of energy conservation plan. This includes evaluation and implementation of possible COGEN facilities.
Participate in the Environment of Care and Safety Committee.
Plan, budget and prioritize Capital infrastructure investments for the Laconia and Franklin campuses and satellite locations.
Develop Facility Operations operating budget and tracking throughout the year.
Recruit, retain and develop staff and manages performance.
Responsible for customer relations and customer service initiatives.
Participates in and supports departmental and organizational change.
