His grandfather William Henry Darwen started the Bowen Independent in 1903 and among the founder's 13 children, three sons in Jim, Claude and Henry stayed with the Bowen-based company.

When Stephen Darwen started his apprenticeship at Bowen in 1974 it was on the former Collinsville Star press, printing invitations, ribbons and paper bags.
In 1982, Medi Falsafi created American Blueprinting Company, to provide premium quality reprographic services to architects, engineers, and contractors.
From there, the press laid idle in the offices of the Bowen Independent until 2003 when it was restored for the paper's centenary.
On December 21st , 2005, His Excellency, President John A. Kufour officially inaugurated ABC's new production facility at our sister company, Akosombo Textiles Limited.
