The Mortgage Loan Officer originates quality mortgage loans by selling ABNB mortgage loan products and services to meet the needs of its membership and participate in related business development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain client relationships with assigned branches, members, and other professionals working in a complimenting business and who are in a position to refer loan applications to credit union. Suggested activities may include sales calls, application services, and working referrals. The Mortgage Loan Officer should work closely with the various managers to develop member and business partner relationships designed to effectively develop new business opportunities.
Responsible for overall member interaction with all parties involved on each individual loan that is originated from application to closing; duties to include but not limited to: taking complete and accurate applications, obtaining all necessary support documents, overseeing the loan process by monitoring loan status and ensuring conformity with terms, assisting in collecting additional documents, promptly and effectively communicating loan status to all interested parties and obtaining loan documentation after closings, as directed by management. Quote terms, conditions, and explain various lending options with members and realtors. Preparing members for loan application by informing them of the documents they will need to bring to application.
Be familiar with and understand all mortgage loan programs and products. To advise their manager of questions they have or of any possible training needs they may have regarding Credit Union programs or the business in general, to ensure members are given the best possible service.
Keep informed of changing rules and regulations pertaining to the mortgage industry; and any other affiliates that we deem necessary. Attend educational seminars and networking events offered by complimenting businesses and agencies in our community.
Maintain a professional image and standards consistent with credit union policies and procedures. Act in a professional, courteous, respectful manner and provide quality service to internal and external customers, vendors, and members. Handle any problem on the loan files that are not considered routine. The Loan Officer will be apprised of and address any problems on their files involving an upset member, a rejected or suspended file, an unusual underwriting condition, or a matter which the processor is uncomfortable handling or is determined to be critical to the continued success of the process.
Maintain designated production levels.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
This Mortgage Loan Officer is a COMMISSION ONLY position.
Requirements
Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience. At least one year as a residential mortgage loan officer highly desired.
Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills: Must qualify for the National Mortgage Licensing System Registry. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient in PC skills, having the ability to learn and use the credit union's equipment and software programs. Ability to become familiar with the credit union's policies and procedures. Must possess mathematical skills such as the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measuring whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must have a valid drivers license; ability to meet members and clients at various branch locations. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time, lift/carry up to 10 pounds.

The role of the Member Service Representative is to assist members and prospective members with all areas of their Credit Union needs. Efficient and independently process financial transactions, explain services, set up new accounts, respond to problems, and direct members to the appropriate person(s)/department. Ensure the sales, service, and operational functions assigned are being performed efficiently and within guidelines. Support and assist members through all communication channels to include in branch, incoming and outbound calls, message center and by email.
Key Responsibilities
* Presents and explains Credit Union products and services to members and potential members; assists them in identifying credit union products to meet their financial needs.
* Performs routine member transactions including deposits, withdrawals, cash advances, loan payments, transfers, check cashing, cashier's checks, Visa gift cards, reloadable travel cards, and issues debit cards.
* Opens and closes all types of accounts and perform file maintenance as needed; ensures collection of all required signatures and documents.
* Answers questions and assist in the resolution of problems by effectively listening and asking questions to understand problems, and identify solutions.

Commercial Banking Intern, Richmond VA-Summer 2026

Summary/Objective Burke & Herbert Bank Commercial Banking Interns will receive ongoing training, mentoring, and commercial real estate business exposure. Participants are required to complete a rigorous program working under the supervision of an assigned program mentor. The program covers three primary areas: 1) Credit and Lending Fundamentals, 2) Business Development, and 3) Customer Relationship Management. Participants must maintain a minimum standard of performance and conduct to remain in the program.
Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
* Complete all assigned tasks and assist with day-to-day operations.
* Participate in meetings, workshops, and other learning opportunities.
* Observe and learn from experienced staff members.
* Gain knowledge of company policies, protocols, and processes.
* Fulfill any requirements and goals set out at the program's start.
* Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

This program operates in a standard setting that requires standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
This position requires manual dexterity and the ability to lift files and open cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
Travel:
Additional travel within and outside the Bank may be required for this program.
