Absopure company history timeline
Founded in Detroit in 1908, Michigan-based Absopure is a family-owned company providing an assortment of clean, crisp-tasting water products to retailers across the country, and delivered directly to homes and offices in Michigan, St Louis and select areas throughout the Midwest.
From that idea, Plastipak was born in 1967, the same year that Bill graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of Detroit.
In 1982, the Young Family re-purchased Absopure from Beatrice and has continued to build on the company’s success into the new millennium.
Our distribution footprint continued to expand over the coming years, notably growing into the St Louis market in 1996.
Young’s father and Plastipak cofounder died of a heart attack in 2005 at age 90.
In 2012, GS Capital Partners, a group of funds in the merchant-banking division of Goldman Sachs & Co, bought a minority stake in the family-owned business for an undisclosed amount.
