Position Overview

The Young Adult Learning Center (YALC) is seeking a Core Academic Instructor for the 2022-2023 school year. The YALC provides academic and workforce development to young adults between the ages of 17 and 24 who do not have a high school credential; there is a focus on those transitioning from incarceration. With the support of a special education teacher, this position will also support students with special learning or emotional needs to ensure that they receive the level of instruction that they need to enable them to succeed. Individualized Education Program (IEP) case management and coordination will be part of this employee’s responsibility, with the support of special education staff.

Responsibilities

The Core Academic Instructor (Mathematics and Science Focus) will be assigned to one or more of the following:

  • Developing and instructing the YALC’s project-based Foundations Course, which will consist of extensive life, social and employability skills coupled with applied academics
  • Developing curriculum and instructing students in Mathematics and Science to ensure basic proficiency and to prepare them for promotion to the GED course
  • Developing curriculum and instructing students in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies to ensure that students are prepared to take and pass the GED

In addition, the Core Academic Instructor (Mathematics and Science Focus) will:

  • Assess individual learning styles and adapt teaching methods to fit
  • Create a classroom environment that features a rich diversity of resources, engages student interest, promotes student leadership, and stimulates student learning
  • Have thoughtful approaches to teaching concepts and sparking student interest while also imparting essential factual knowledge
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings for all students
  • Model and contribute to a school culture of hope and high expectations for achievement
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant field
  • Two years of teaching experience in alternative education settings
  • Eligibility for certification

Role and Responsibilities

Summary
Provide formal aircrew academic and simulator training to officer and enlisted initial qualification, requalification, instructor upgrade, and key staff students to conduct combat search and rescue missions utilizing NVG low level flight, helicopter aerial refueling operations, alternate insertion and extraction methods, emergency procedures training, systems instruction, and tactical operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide formal aircrew academic and simulator training to officer and enlisted initial qualification, requalification, instructor upgrade, and key staff students to conduct combat search and rescue missions utilizing NVG low level flight, helicopter aerial refueling operations, alternate insertion and extraction methods, emergency procedures training, systems instruction, and tactical operations.Provide academic and simulator refresher training to qualified officer and enlisted world-wide HH-60G aircrew members.Assist in the development of and ensuring the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process is correctly applied to all HH-60G courseware.Selected candidate will become a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) certified instructor.Perform other duties as directed by the management team.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum of an Associate degree or equivalent Currency as a Special Mission Aviator in the HH-60G within the previous two years; or within the previous 8 years if the candidate has performed 8 years of military operational flying duty at the time of hire with at least two years or 200 hours experience as in in-flight instructor in the HH-60G.Minimum of 2000 hours in the HH-60GMinimum of 100+ hours of Night Vision Goggle time Minimum 500 hours of instructor time Must be willing and able to work varying shifts, weekend, and in outdoors conditions as required Must be willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally as required Applicants will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must be able to obtain/maintain the required security clearance

Security Responsibilities
