At some point in your academic life, you must have hired an educated tutor to get good grades. At that time, you might not realize it, but once you reach your destination, you then understand the critical role that person played in your education. With a mean salary of $14.40 an hour, the tutor meets with the student at the time decided mutually by the student, parents, and tutor.
Other than that, Academic tutors work even harder during exam season and may teach for more than 40 hours per week. They help their students learn new concepts and encourage, motivate, support, and acknowledge them. It enables the students to instantly answer all of the teacher's questions and impress everyone in the class.
To give tuition to students, you at least require a high school diploma. But you will see some tutor roles demanding a bachelor's degree. An academic tutor with patience, practical communication skills, creativity, and confidence is best suited for teaching any student type.
When it comes to the most important skills required to be an academic tutor, we found that a lot of resumes listed 17.8% of academic tutors included math, while 11.1% of resumes included mathematics, and 8.9% of resumes included academic support. Hard skills like these are helpful to have when it comes to performing essential job responsibilities.
If you're interested in becoming an academic tutor, one of the first things to consider is how much education you need. We've determined that 72.3% of academic tutors have a bachelor's degree. In terms of higher education levels, we found that 11.6% of academic tutors have master's degrees. Even though most academic tutors have a college degree, it's possible to become one with only a high school degree or GED.
In addition to switching up your job search, it might prove helpful to look at a career path for your specific job. Now, what's a career path you ask? Well, it's practically a map that shows how you might advance from one job title to another. Our career paths are especially detailed with salary changes. So, for example, if you started out with the role of teacher you might progress to a role such as adjunct professor eventually. Later on in your career, you could end up with the title assistant principal.

The best states for people in this position are Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire. Academic tutors make the most in Connecticut with an average salary of $43,929. Whereas in New York and New Jersey, they would average $41,586 and $40,421, respectively. While academic tutors would only make an average of $39,596 in New Hampshire, you would still make more there than in the rest of the country. We determined these as the best states based on job availability and pay. By finding the median salary, cost of living, and using the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Location Quotient, we narrowed down our list of states to these four.
