Academy of General Dentistry company history timeline
Founded in 1952, AGD is the only professional association that exclusively represents the needs and interests of general dentists.
The seed of the CAGD was planted in the summer of 1958 when a small group of dentists started meeting on a regular basis in a restaurant in Leimert Park in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles.
Prior to the 1960's there was little opportunity for dentists to find quality continuing education courses.
In the early to mid 1960's meetings were held informally, usually in the basement of someone's home.
In 1961 the CAGD decided to affiliate with the AGD and become a chapter of the AGD.
Membership from the upstate region in the NYSAGD was occurring but it was not until the late 1970's that there was significant growth.
