BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for generating new business opportunities by developing a sales strategy and leveraging the proven sales model that focuses on building relationships with potential customers. Successful Business Development Managers will be meeting or exceeding conversion rates, by generating new leads, aligning with industry partners, attending trade association events and building a strong book of business.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development
Nurture and expand existing business relationships to increase lead generation and average job size.
Locate, present to, and sell BluSky to new prospects.
Maintain membership and involvement in targeted associations and achieve significant committee and/or leadership positions.
Support all BluSky sales efforts by following our established sales process.
Perform to the current Sanktum KPI's regarding face-to-face activity.
Prepare and present sales proposals and BluSky contingency plans.
Achieve expected connections with clients and prospects via meetings, phone calls, social media, email, etc.
Maintaining relationships with key individuals in your assigned vertical.
Strategically build a strong book of business.
Document business development activities using Salesforce.
Marketing
Work with leadership to plan association involvement level and budgets
Work with Senior Management to design and implement advertising strategies including content selection and budgeting for local office needs.
Participate in and represent BluSky in tradeshows, golf tournaments, charitable events and other networking and social activities, many of which is after normal business hours.
Partner with sales team on the creation and planning of BluSky Live seminars.
General Responsibilities

Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
3+ years of outside sales experience required; within the restoration industry is ideal.
Must be able to attend networking functions in the evening and weekends when required.
Intermediate level of Microsoft Office.
Experience inputting and tracking sales activities into a CRM platform.
Valid driver's license.
An outgoing, driven, tenacious, team-oriented attitude is a must!
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing or related field preferred.

Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is 274,550 - 355,300 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. The range is based on 'On Target Earnings' (OTE) representing the total potential earnings, which is the sum of the base salary and potential commission earned when performance targets are achieved. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. The position encompasses Inland Marine underwriting for the Markel Specialty West Region. Specific focus for this role will to be to establish and grow the Inland Marine book of dual distribution (retail and wholesale) business in the West territory. The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines. The appropriate candidate will utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. In addition, they should understand state laws within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Extensive knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language, appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions, is critical. In addition to underwriting acumen, the ideal candidate will also be able to provide coaching and mentorship to others on the team. Along with day to day underwriting responsibilities, they will market our products to producers and agent by coordinating marketing plan with regional and national marketing associates as well as participate underwriting meetings as required.
Responsibilities:
* Review, analyze, accept, and decline Inland Marine risks to ensure profitability for Markel.
* Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
* Manage the existing renewal book and implement corrective measures, as needed, to meet profitability expectations.
* Communicate with regional managers and national product line leaders on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate.
* Participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.
* Build and maintain quality relationships with key producers while simultaneously monitoring the entire appointed producer base for profitability and production.
* Review forms and pricing of competitors and be able to effectively market the Markel product within the competitive landscape
* Provide training or technical assistance to department underwriting staff.
Qualifications:
* 5+ years of complex Inland Marine underwriting expertise in retail and wholesale with surplus lines experience a plus.
* Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility.
* Demonstrated marketing and relationship building skills.
* Four-year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
