The positions begin in the 2026-27 academic year. The Beacom School of Business is the flagship business school in South Dakota with programs consistently receiving high national rankings from U.S. News and World Report, the Princeton Review, and others. The Accounting department has experience significant enrollment growth, offering its undergraduate major on its Vermillion and Sioux Falls campuses, making it the school's largest major. At the graduate level, students take classes on its main campus or through its online Master of Accountancy program, including its specializations in Accounting Analytics, Leadership, Business Management, and Finance. The online program, now in its 11th year, is nationally ranked due to its affordability and high CPA exam pass rate. Through the efforts of the School's Career Success Center, the program has an exceptionally high placement rate and consistently places students each year in internships with Big Four, national, and regional public accounting firms and industry. The department is actively engaged with the profession and works closely with its Advisory Council. Faculty are recognized as outstanding teachers. TThe successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in accounting. Non-profit/governmental accounting is a particular need, but all areas of accounting will be considered. The faculty member is expected to provide an outstanding educational experience to students through classroom teaching, mentorship, and student activities outside the classroom. Duties include outstanding teaching, scholarly research, and service for the Department, University, profession, and broader community. Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in an accounting or DBA in Accounting from an accredited business school is required for the tenure track position. Candidates who are ABD will also be considered. A CPA is required for the professor of practice position. Additionally, candidates must have a record of or potential for contribution to the scholarship of accounting. Other requirements are proficiency in oral and written communication, and enthusiasm for engagement, service, and the public good. Primary Duties Maintain a system for accurate company files and records both physical and virtual Record financial transactions Post debits and credits Create invoices Assist reconciliation of credit cards, bank statements, etc Document and fact-check transaction details Conduct daily and monthly reporting Provide assistance researching variances and propose solutions Resolve purchase order, receipt reconciling differences Notify management of any accounting errors, inconsistencies and discoveries Support the necessary administrative activities for sales orders and miscellaneous state tax filings Develop supplier, customer relationships Assist with analyzing freight spend Facilitate cycle counts, inventory management 2. Other Payroll support, debt collection, mass mailing, scanning, mail management, supply order entry Assist Customer Service by invoicing, processing returns, offer product knowledge, telephone support Assist with budgets, reports, research as needed Willing to receive direction and complete projects and tasks as directed by leadership 3. Education, Reasoning Ability & Experience A degree in bookkeeping, finance or accounting is preferred. Two years or more of experience in bookkeeping, finance, accounting, math, inventory management will be considered Possesses an understanding of bookkeeping / accounting principles, GL accounts, able to accurately prepare and post journal entries Experience with QuickBooks a plus Critical thinking and logical reasoning skills, including problem solving, troubleshooting and decision making Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines Willing to certify AIPB or NACPB, knowledgeable of GAAP, etc 4.
