Why our Accounting Operations Manager is Important: The Accounting Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the Accounting Operations function for HEMIC and its subsidiary companies, ensuring that all premium, cash receipts, claims, and cash disbursement transactions are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with applicable accounting principles, internal controls, and regulatory requirements. This role supervises all accounting operational activities and resources-including personnel, systems, and budgets-and plays a key leadership role in maintaining strong internal controls over accounting operations. The Accounting Operations Manager leads staff development, identifies and implements operational improvements, manages risk, and partners closely with leadership on inter-departmental initiatives and accounting projects in a highly regulated insurance environment. Essential Duties Accounting Operations & Financial Integrity Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions for HEMIC and its subsidiaries. Ensure all premium, cash receipt, claim, and cash disbursement transactions reflected in accounting records, financial statements, and internal and external reports are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with applicable accounting standards. Oversee invoicing, cash receipts, disbursements, vendor management, collections, cash management and controls, and fixed asset accounting. Review and analyze accounting control reports, work papers, transactional data, workflows, and operational files to ensure compliance, accuracy, quality control, and identify improvement opportunities. Evaluate accounting systems and processes to ensure internal controls are documented, effective, and consistently executed. Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting operational issues. Leadership & Team Management Supervise accounting operations staff, including assessing staffing levels, assigning work, hiring, training, performance evaluations, coaching, discipline, and employee development. Oversee continued training and professional development of accounting operations staff. Oversee the collections function, ensuring timely, effective collections while maintaining a high level of professionalism and respect for policyholders and debtors. Ensure adherence to organizational Core Values, policies, service-level expectations, and State and Federal laws. Risk Management, Controls & Compliance Establish, maintain, and oversee internal controls over accounting. Manage operational risks related to accounting operations, including regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, and other financial and operational risks. Support audits, examinations, and regulatory reviews as required. Ensure accounting operational directives from leadership are implemented accurately and on schedule. Process Improvement & Systems Identify, develop, and implement procedures to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and reporting quality. Lead and support accounting projects, including inter-departmental initiatives and system enhancements. Acquire and maintain expertise in the usage, capabilities, and functionality of policy, claims, workflow, and document management systems. Evaluate and oversee the implementation of new bank technologies, products, and services to improve cash efficiency and streamline operations. Budget & Resource Management Manage the Accounting Operations budget and oversee department resources, including equipment and facilities. Monitor expenditures and ensure efficient use of resources aligned with organizational goals. Other Responsibilities Participate in departmental and cross-functional meetings. Requirements Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including GAAP accounting. 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
