Prior to the launch of Nike ACG, the sub-label had a bit of a teaser one year prior to it’s introduction with the ACG Air Pegasus that dropped in 1988.
What set Nike apart from its competition wasn’t just a wealth of experience in sportswear producing apparel and footwear, but a tenacious underdog attitude. It wasn’t until nine years later, in 1989, that their Hiking line was remodelled and became ACG which would further their adventure into the outdoors wear market.
Originally released in 1991, the sneaker itself fused Hatfield’s Huarache design with elements of the Wildwood, and the speckled sole is meant to be an homage to the scales of the rainbow trout.
In 2017, to mark the College’s 85th Anniversary, an exhibit celebrating ACG’s history of achievements was created for display at the Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
After a short tenure of 4 years, news broke in 2018 that Hugh's tech-oriented take at Nikelab ACG was coming to an end.
Hugh and ACG’s partnership only lasted a couple of seasons, as it was announced in 2018 that his iteration of the storied sub-label was coming to a close.
Looking to take the brand back to it's outdoors-y roots, Arizumi's relaunch of it's heritage-driven 2019 collection saw the re-introduction of loud retro colors and designs, including the addition of more womenswear.
Autumn/Winter ‘20 is equally as focused on sustainability as it is on performance, steering ACG into a more conscientious direction as 2020 draws to a close.
