Mr. Ogunkeye joined the ACGME in August 2013 and is the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President, Operations, and as Executive Vice President, ACGME Global Services. For nearly three decades, Mr. Ogunkeye held a variety of management positions within academic medical centers. He started his career in 1985 as a division administrator at the University of Texas Health Sciences in Houston. Since then, he assumed expanding scope and responsibilities, culminating in a position at Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he served as Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians. He also served as the Associate Dean and Executive Director for the Clinical Practice Association and Clinical Research Operations & Finance for the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Ogunkeye served as the Chief Operating Officer of Jefferson Medical College, and as the Executive Director/Vice President for Jefferson University Physicians (JUP), a large, multi-specialty physician group practice based in Philadelphia. Before JUP, Mr. Ogunkeye was the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Morehouse Medical Associates in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Ogunkeye has broad management experience with medical school departments, having served as a department administrator at a number of medical schools. He was an administrator in surgery departments at West Virginia University, the University of Colorado, and at the University of Chicago.

John R. Combes

Chief Communications & Public Policy Officer

Dr. Combes is Chief Communications and Public Policy Officer and previously was an ACGME Visiting Scholar, studying GME and institutional integration, physician well-being, and the health care governance of the clinical learning environment.

Prior to joining the ACGME, Dr. Combes served as a Senior Advisor with the Southport Group, a firm specializing in health care leadership, governance, trustee and physician lifelong development, and strategic planning. In that role, he worked with the American Board of Medical Specialties on health care policy issues and enhanced the value of board certification as a strategic resource for hospitals and health systems.

Dr. Combes is a member of the Board of Salem Health, an integrated health care delivery system in Oregon, as well as a Director of Quality Insights, a multi-state quality improvement organization. He writes and speaks frequently on governance, physician issues, and quality, and lectures nationally and internationally on health care leadership.

Dr. Combes is the retired chief medical officer and senior vice president of the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the former president of the Center for Healthcare Governance, an AHA affiliate organization.

Kevin B. Weiss

MD

Dr. Weiss is the Senior Vice President, Institutional Accreditation, and is responsible for the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Program, co-chairs the CLER Evaluation Committee, and has oversight of the ACGME Institutional Review process.

Dr. Weiss came to the ACGME from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), where from 2007 to 2012 he served as president and CEO. During his tenure at the ABMS, he initiated the Enhanced Public Trust Initiative, which broadened public membership and involvement in governance and policy development; developed and implemented the new Ethics and Professionalism Committee and a Health and Public Policy Program; and established alignment with both Maintenance of Licensure and public and private programs focused on physician accountability, such as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Physician Quality Reporting Initiative. Other key initiatives included public reporting of Maintenance of Certification and Board Eligibility. Through Dr. Weiss’ leadership, ABMS-International was established, with its first international collaboration with Singapore.
