* Prepares surfaces by washing, scraping, sanding, torching and/or smoothing prior to applying finishing materials.
* Installs, repairs, and maintains drywall, wall texturing, vinyl wall coverings and ceiling acoustic texturing.
* Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
* Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying.

Job Summary: The Painter responsibilities include patching, applying paint, varnishes, and other coatings to a variety of materials such as walls, buildings, and machinery. This position requires precision, an eye for detail, and practical expertise in paint application techniques. An important part of our mission is to enhance the functionality and appearance of our facilities and ensure longevity. Strictly follow all Piedmont Health Services and clinic policies and protocols, including infection control and universal precautions. This involves minimizing dust and debris to protect sensitive patient areas. Use specialized coatings such as low-VOC or zero-VOC paints to protect indoor air quality, and antimicrobial paints to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew. Coordinate painting schedules with the facilities team to minimize disruption to clinic operations and patient care. This may include working during off-peak hours, such as nights or weekends. Maintain, clean, and properly store all tools, brushes, and equipment. Ensure the workspace is clean and organized throughout and after each project. Perform minor drywall repairs, carpentry, and other general maintenance tasks as needed. Install wall protection, wall coverings, and ceiling tiles as required. Maintain detailed records of materials used, work orders, and areas serviced for accurate tracking and inventory. Adhere to all federal, state, and OSHA safety regulations. Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Successful completion of an apprenticeship, preferred;
Preferred: At least 1 year of experience as a painter. Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them; Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques; Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.); Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders etc.; Conscientious with great attention to detail. Valid certification to handle hazardous lead paints, preferred.

SUMMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Meets regularly with supervisor to provide updated information on jobs in progress, scheduled work, & backlog. Ensure that all necessary forms, permits, precautions, etc. are fulfilled prior to the start of projects. Communicates to staff the work to be done, suggest means or methods for timely completion of work. Receive and enter work orders.
2. Completes assigned painting projects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrappers, paint removers and chemicals, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster or other fillers, applying paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
3. Protects Hospital property and equipment from damage during painting work by removing furniture, wall fixtures, and equipment from work sites if possible or covering immoveable items with protective cloths, covering floors with cloths or tarpaulins, taping woodwork, facings, and decorative trims, and erecting safe scaffolding in a manner that prevents damage.
4. Restores painting work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing scaffolding, painting cloths, tarpaulins, and masking tape used during the project, returning furniture and equipment to their proper location, setting up equipment that had been dismantled, and cleaning any paint splatters from surfaces, furniture or equipment.
5. Practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator's manual, and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.
6. Reduces the likelihood for liability regarding the Hospitals compliance with federal regulations by complying with policies, laws, and regulations governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to painting.
7. Contributes to an accident-free work environment by complying with operator's instructions for the use of power sprayers and tools, wearing protective equipment such as filter respirators, goggles, hearing protectors, back support, and work gloves, reporting incidents of unsafe work activity to supervisors, and following standard safety precautions during work.
8. Contributes to the overall success of Facilities Maintenance by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Maintenance Painter performs skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of interior and exterior surfaces (e.g., wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, piping insulation, and brick), on all Hospital building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment following recognized procedures and techniques of the painting trade and using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, and related painting tools. The Painter also practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment, and complies with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal and the use of chemical substances and materials common to the painting trade.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Meets regularly with supervisor to provide updated information on jobs in progress, scheduled work, & backlog. Ensure that all necessary forms, permits, precautions, etc. are fulfilled prior to the start of projects. Communicates to staff the work to be done, suggest means or methods for timely completion of work. Receive and enter work orders.
2. Completes assigned painting projects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrapers, paint removers and chemicals, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster or other fillers, applying paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
3. Protects Hospital property and equipment from damage during painting work by removing furniture, wall fixtures, and equipment from work sites if possible or covering immoveable items with protective cloths, covering floors with cloths or tarpaulins, taping woodwork, facings, and decorative trims, and erecting safe scaffolding in a manner that prevents damage.
4. Restores painting work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing scaffolding, painting cloths, tarpaulins, and masking tape used during the project, returning furniture and equipment to their proper location, setting up equipment that had been dismantled, and cleaning any paint splatters from surfaces, furniture or equipment.
5. Practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator's manual, and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.
6. Reduces the likelihood for liability regarding the Hospitals compliance with federal regulations by complying with policies, laws, and regulations governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to painting.
7. Contributes to an accident-free work environment by complying with operator's instructions for the use of power sprayers and tools, wearing protective equipment such as filter respirators, goggles, hearing protectors, back support, and work gloves, reporting incidents of unsafe work activity to supervisors, and following standard safety precautions during work.
8. Contributes to the overall success of Facilities Maintenance by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

* Specialized knowledge:
§ Knowledge of all methods, procedures, practices, and tools of the Painter trade
§ Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings/sketches, schematics, diagrams, and written specifications as they pertain to the Paint Trade.
§ Possess a general understanding of how they pertain to all other trades.
§ Must be knowledgeable of State, local building codes, and life safety codes as they apply to AnMed.
* Good customer service skills.

Essential Functions
