In 1979, 19 youth with disabilities in Denver Colorado, parked their wheelchairs in front of two inaccessible city buses to stop them from moving, They wanted not to be put in the back of the bus, but to get ON the bus in the first place.
ADAPT, known throughout the years as American Disabled for Accessible Public Transit or American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today, has been an ally to the Atlantis Community since its inception in 1983.
As of February 15th 1993, it will be 25 years since the death of Wade Blank, one of the founders of ADAPT and the Atlantis Community.
Starting in 2006, ADAPT has been hosting annual Youth Summits for small groups of young activists with disabilities seeking to use nonviolent direct action to end the institutional bias in America and FREE OUR PEOPLE!
