ACAP company history timeline

1965

The Committee for Economic Improvement, Inc was established in 1965 as a Community Action Agency to serve the needs and advocate for all people in Essex County.

1981

The core funding for Adirondack Community Action Programs, Inc. is the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). CSBG was one of six block grant programs created under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 when the federal government consolidated many domestic social programs.

1983

ACAP was established in Sydney in 1983 with the aim of making the study of applied psychology accessible to the wider public, beyond the narrow confines of traditional university teachings.

1987

The Autistic Community Activity Program began in 1987 as a grassroots effort by parents and supportive professionals seeking to fill an unmet need.

1989

1989 - Lionel Davis injects life back into ACAP Lionel takes over the college with a crystal clear vision to provide practical skills for students that they can immediately apply in their workplaces.

1990

Fort Knox ACAP was one of the 5-pilot sites established in 1990.

1991

The Alliance of Claims Assistance Professionals originated as the National Association of Claims Assistance Professionals (NACAP). Headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois, NACAP was a non-profit 501c(3) corporation that debuted in 1991 under the direction of Norma Border and Kathryn Dokas.

The Army's experience with the pilot programs was so positive that they expanded world-wide by 1991.

1993

In September 1993 ACAP offered Australia’s first accredited training courses in counselling.

1998

In 1998, recognizing the need for a central CAP directory and ongoing member education, several former NACAP members created the Alliance of Claims Assistance Professionals (ACAP), a non-profit 501c(3) corporation headquartered in Wheaton, Illinois.

1999

The agency changed its name to Adirondack Community Action Programs, Inc. (ACAP) in 1999.

2005

In 2005 ACAP’s approval as one of the first private organisations to be awarded higher education provider status came through.

2005: FEE HELP introduced ACAP is approved by the Commonwealth government to offer higher education students FEE HELP for their tuition.

2009

AXIS Camera Application Platform (ACAP) was introduced already in 2009 and is the world’s first camera-based video analytics platform.

2014

On 20 June 2014, the Chief of Staff of the Army announced that the Official name for the Army Transition Program will be: "Soldier for Life: Transition Assistance Program." The old designation of ACAP will no longer be utilized, effective immediately.

2018

2018: ACAP becomes bold and blue A strategic brand realignment creates polarised opinions but achieves cut through and paves the way to another period of fast growth for the college.

2022

A constant focus to expand from the early days of Counselling to Psychology and then Social Work, Criminology and Coaching has paved the way for the most recent chapter in ACAP history, launching an MBA for 2022.
