We seek a scholar who advances cognitive-linguistic neuroscience with an emphasis on the diagnosis, prediction, and treatment of neurocognitive communication disorders in adults including aphasia, primary progressive aphasia, traumatic brain injury, stroke or aging-related cognitive-communication decline. The successful candidate is expected to: establish and sustain an independent, externally fundable research program; recruit, mentor, and support PhD students; support doctoral training within and beyond the department; collaborate across disciplines on brain health and cognition across the lifespan; teach graduate coursework in adult language disorders and courses aligned with their expertise (e.g. research methods); and provide service to the Department, College, and University. Responsibilities:
Teaching: He/she will be expected to actively participate in the Department's educational programs, teaching medical students and residents. This will include participation in the medical student lecture series, active participation in all of the teaching conferences of the Department, participation in the postgraduate courses conducted by the Department, and precepting and mentoring students and residents. Specific responsibilities include
Teaching pre-clerkship medical students in the classroom, small groups and in other clinical or non-clinical settings

Clinical: He/she is required to participate in the neurology practice structure including inpatient and outpatient clinical services. The Epileptologist shares EEG reading service among the division, ranging from 8-12 weeks per year. General Inpatient admitting or consult service ranges from 4-8 weeks per year. Outpatient clinics will be assigned for 6-8 half days per week when not on service. There is an opportunity to read IOM several days per week, as applicable.
Research/Scholarship: He/she is required to participate in research and other scholarly activities related to the area of expertise and interest with expectation of intramural and extramural grant funding
Administration/Service: He/she will be expected to participate, to the extent that you may be reasonably called upon, in administrative and/or services functions of the Department of Neurology, the College of Medicine and Life Sciences or teaching hospital committees.

They would also be expected to teach any of our required courses, including Intro to Psychology, Statistics, SPSS, Research Methods and Thesis, in addition to a lower level topical seminar. The Psychology Department currently has 7 full-time members representing the main sub-disciplines in the field. The Psychology major is one of the largest majors on campus, and the department is housed in the Neal Malicky Center for the Social Sciences, which has dedicated research space for human research. Faculty members involve undergraduate students in their research program. The successful candidate will engage in an active program of applied research (either on campus or off campus with a healthcare/nonprofit/ community agency partner) where undergraduates will be able to improve their skills and make meaningful contributions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach full-time load of four courses each semester for the Division of Education, with primary focus on Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate P-5 Elementary and Reading/Literacy coursework. The ideal candidate would have LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training or state-mandated Science of Reading training. Load may include courses in candidates other area(s) of specialization for graduate endorsements or MAED program, as assigned.
Assist in curricular development and alignment with required professional standards.
Collaborate with division faculty and campus instructional design team for course development/implementation.
Advise education undergraduate and post-baccalaureate candidates as assigned.
Participate in scholarship activities.
Participate in divisional assessment, state reporting, and CAEP accreditation work.
Assist division leadership team in program writing and submissions.
Collaborate with colleagues for grant opportunities and service-based programs with school and community partners.
Provide service to division, university, profession, and community partners.
Alignment with the Walsh University mission.

Education: Doctorate/Terminal Degree in education is preferred, doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Reading/Literacy, Early Childhood, Special Education, or closely related field. ABD will be considered.
Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years in P-5 classroom teaching experience. Background and/or experience in Science of Reading literacy preferred. Intervention specialist experience will be viewed favorably. Classroom teaching experience license/certification in the field in which the teaching occurred or related specialization and pedagogy; educator preparation higher education experience preferred; knowledge of program standards proposed by appropriate national standards/Specialized Professional Association (SPA), including one or more of the following: Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) ), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), or International Literacy Association (ILA). Experience in online course development and teaching preferred.
