POSITION SUMMARY:

The Division of Natural Sciences & Mathematics is seeking a qualified adjunct biology instructor to teach in-person undergraduate courses.

Position will be responsible for teaching one or more of the following courses during the Fall 2022 Semester (August 29 – December 16, 2022):

  • BI 109, Biology for Today (non-majors introductory biology course), lecture only. MR 9:30 - 10:20 am

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop weekly content, testing materials, and learning activities for in-person classes.
  • Prepare syllabi and deliver curriculum appropriate for the course assigned.
  • Appropriately respond to student needs and feedback.
  • Assess the course learning outcomes.
  • Foster an inclusive educational environment to serve all learners.
  • Maintain student attendance records in accordance with university policy.
  • Submit mid-term and final grades on time.
  • Advise and/or mentor students through electronic communications and other appropriate methods.
  • Complete all required training, including training on Engage LMS.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Master’s degree or higher in Biology or related field.
  • May also consider those with 18 graduate level credit hours in biology or related field or All-But-Dissertation doctoral candidates.
  • Ability to teach required course in person.
  • Affinity with the Mission of the University of Saint Mary.

How Will You Be Contributing?

Reporting to the Dean of General Education, your main responsibility will be teaching courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures by creating a dynamic learning environment conducive to student engagement in a classroom/online hybrid setting.

  • Keep students engaged in a classroom environment while following an established curriculum/syllabus.
  • Create positive educational climate for students to learn in while establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom/online. Observe and evaluate student's performance.
  • Identify and refer students who are "at risk" of not being successful to the Student Success Coordinator.
  • Provide ongoing student advisement and academic counseling by tutoring and mentoring students on an individual basis when needed.
  • Grade tests and projects, maintain grade books, track attendance and perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Participate in ongoing conferences, seminars, and training sessions.
  • Provide input and participate in academic committees formed for the purpose of enrichment of both the programs and students.
