We are looking for candidates with a strong background in applying mathematical and scientific problem-solving methods to broad areas of industrial engineering. The desired areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, quality engineering, continuous improvement, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, robotics, application of digital twins, simulation, operations management and optimization, ergonomics, and human factors. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM) Department offers BSIE, MSE, MSOR, and PhD degrees. The Department has an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Our faculty currently consists of six tenure-track/tenured members and three clinical members. Our student body includes approximately 140 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. Our faculty's research interests include artificial intelligence/critiquing systems, digital engineering and digital twins, ergonomics, robotics, additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, complex systems engineering and design, systems science, model-based systems engineering, stakeholder preference modeling and communication, quality systems design and assessment, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and engineering management. In FY25, the department had over $2.2 million in research expenditures. Rapid growth in faculty, students, and research funding is intended in this field given the large engineering and scientific workforce of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, the Redstone Arsenal, Cummings Research Park, and other area industries. Manufacturing growth in the Huntsville area offers additional opportunities with the department having partnerships with companies such as Mazda Toyota, Polaris, and Blue Origin.
