POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
The Center for Environmental Diagnostics and Bioremediation (CEDB) at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for a faculty position (Position #110640), with an anticipated start date of August 2026. This position is a full-time, 12-month tenured appointment with rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful applicant will be expected to assume the directorship of CEDB in August 2027. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is a critical component of the university's objectives and evaluation of candidates will include prior teaching and mentoring successes. Candidates are expected to bring and maintain an established research program that complements and enhances existing research programs at UWF and CEDB, and be expected to teach one course per semester. The Director is a member of the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering leadership team, working collaboratively to advance the strategic goals of the University, College, and Center.
CEDB is a collaborative interdisciplinary research center at UWF with an emphasis on water
quality and habitat issues. Tenure, promotion and teaching will be through the relevant
academic department, depending on expertise. UWF is a student-centered public university where faculty and students collaborate on meaningful research across all disciplines. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Holds the highest degree appropriate to the field or possesses professional qualifications in the field above those that would be equivalent to the highest degree. Normally, an associate professor will have produced creative work, professional writing, or research; and have had successful teaching or professional experience in the field of specialization. The appointee engages in teaching, scholarship and creative projects, and/or service and other related activities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in appropriate subject matter from an accredited University and minimum of five (5) years post graduate experience. Established research program with expertise in subject area complementary to current expertise in CEDB and UWF. Administrative experience and a record of successful student mentorship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ten (10) years post graduate experience with administrative experience

Essential Functions:
Instructors must develop and implement a program of instruction to meet the needs of a learning community.
Instructors are required to develop and implement a program of instruction that is consistent with state guidelines but is attentive to the needs of academically talented students.
In order to provide a conducive learning environment, instructors must possess classroom management skills and be able to manage students outside of the classroom setting in the larger school community and during periods of travel such as field trips.
Instructors have the responsibility of continually assessing student performance and providing timely feedback to students in the form of test scores, written evaluations of work, and personal conferences.
Instructors must continually work with other school personnel to monitor the academic performance and the general well-being of students.

assist in the documentation of student progress, instructors must efficiently maintain and submit appropriate records and reports.
It is for instructors to prepare and distribute a course syllabus for each course taught, developed in accordance with organizational guidelines.
Instructors must maintain confidentiality of student records.
Instructors are expected to actively investigate outside learning resources such as guest speakers and student visits to special exhibits, museums, collections, etc. for the purpose of enhancing learning in the field of study.
Instructors must ensure that the classroom is attractive, functional, and conducive to learning.
Instructors must have the ability to work as a member of a team and to be involved in extracurricular activities for the common good of the faculty, staff, and the student body as well as the school community as a whole.
Instructors are required to participate in professional growth and development activities including faculty meetings, in-service days, and other activities as required or assigned.
Instructors must possess strong knowledge of content, curriculum, instructional methods, materials and equipment and must constantly reassess to keep current with new developments in their field of study and in secondary and higher education as a whole.
