    The University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ), Department of Nutrition Sciences in the Schools of Health Professions and Medicine, is seeking a Director of the Nutrition and Obesity Research Center ( NORC ). This will be a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment. Rank and tenure status will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Director will lead the promotion of Nutrition and Obesity research, direct the center's enrichment program, recruit and mentor investigators, and oversee the collaborative research efforts of the center. The ideal candidate will have an established record of accomplishment of academic excellence, mentoring, and scientific leadership, and a well-developed, funded, research program in nutrition, metabolism, and/or obesity. A medical degree or a doctoral degree is required. The Director of the NORC will play an active role in the Department of Nutrition Sciences ( ********************* ), which is chaired by Barbara A. Gower, PhD, and has 25 full-time faculty members and more than 100 staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows involved in basic, animal, physiologic, clinical, and community-based research, patient care, and teaching. The department has a robust portfolio of extramural research funding, hosts two NIDDK -supported centers (the NORC and the Diabetes Research Center), and serves as a clinical center for the NIH consortium study, Nutrition for Precision Health. The Department offers numerous nutrition-related education programs, including an undergraduate major and minor, a broad portfolio of master's degrees, a doctoral program, and a dietetic internship, and directs three NIH -funded T-32 training programs. Ability to travel to and from designated locations. (Transportation is not provided by Ed Farm.)     The Educational Talent Search Seminar Instructor is responsible for administering educational seminars/activities for participants in Educational Talent Search, a federally funded Trio project. This is a temporary, grant-funded and a probationary position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding. SALARY: Hourly $30.00 per hour - not to exceed 19 hours per week. Position is based in Childersburg, Alabama. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Adheres to the policies, rules, and standards of Central Alabama Community College, the Alabama Community College System, accrediting agencies and federal regulatory bodies. * Prepares required reports as required by Central Alabama Community College, the Alabama Community College System, and other regulatory agencies. * Ensures institutional compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). * Submits student services and Trio forms and data in timely manner as directed. * Assists with the recruitment and orientation of students from a four county area and ensures the success of the Educational Talent Search project. * Assists in accomplishing all project objectives with the end result of attaining optimum graduation/retention rates of students, according to the guidance and assistance of the Project Director and in accordance with all grant and institutional requirements. * Designs and implements educational seminars/activities for students. * Systematically conduct seminars or mini-courses in areas supportive of student development. * Documents sign-in forms, individual sessions, including student files, etc., in accordance with grant mandates and institutional requirements. * Relays student needs and programming concerns to the Director. * Mentors area students with awareness and attention to the needs of students who are educationally disadvantaged. * Performs other duties as assigned that pertain to the position. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Education or related area from a regionally accredited institution is required. * Excellent planning, communication and interpersonal skills is required. * Experience as a former teacher or counselor who is knowledgeable of student characteristics and school systems is required. * Willingness and ability to travel within the entire service area is required. * Ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds and sensitivity to the needs of students is required.
