General Description

5. Academically assist, advise, and counsel students regarding their work in classes and recognize when a student requires professional assistance with problems of a personal or academic nature so that professional help can be obtained.

8. Participate in periodic review and revision of course materials to ensure integration of current knowledge within the field into traditionally accepted subject matter.

The position requires being able to teach first and second year writing courses (EWP 190: Writing and the Environment; EWP 290: Research, Writing and Humanities) and courses in Public Presentations Skills and Professional Writing. Lecturers are responsible for a 2/3 teaching load of lower and upper division academic writing classes. Alongside teaching, lecturers support the Writing Program collaborating on curriculum assessment and development. Additionally, the candidate will oversee SUNY ESF's Writing Resource Center, which includes training peer tutors, collaborating across campus, and assessing writing across the SUNY ESF curriculum.
Areas of scholarly strengths in the Writing Program include Composition, Rhetoric, Environmental Writing, Public Presentation, Creative Writing, and Environmental Storytelling. The program offers four student-facing service centers: the Digital Storytelling Studio; the English for Speakers of Other Languages Center (E.S.O.L); the Public Speaking Lab; and the Writing Resource Center. Position Summary:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. General
The faculty consists of all individuals in the employ of Northeast College holding academic rank and engaged in instructional, scholarly and professional, or academic service activities for the College. These activities include, but are not limited to: laboratory, classroom, online, and health center instruction; work of professional librarians; course and curriculum development; research; participation in student advising, enrollment management functions, College governance; and service to one's profession.
B. Teaching
• Each instructor is responsible for planning and presenting course material; establishing course objectives and requirements, and communicating them to students; selecting and ordering texts and supplemental materials; preparing, administering and grading papers and examinations; and assigning grades without discrimination, in accordance with the nondiscrimination policy as it appears in the College catalog.
• Specific responsibilities include providing students with appropriate, current course material consistent with the overall curriculum; assuring student comprehension and competency; and providing unbiased outcome assessments.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach on campus at SUNY ESF. The Writing Program at ESF is a dynamic community of teachers, writers, scholars, and storytellers with 13 visiting and full-time teachers, over forty Environmental Writing Minors, and hosts numerous core courses and electives.
The ideal candidates will be writers who work and teach in one or more genres covered in our Writing Program (professional writing, environmental literature, environmental humanities, composition, digital storytelling, public presentation, creative writing) with an understanding of the significance of writing and communication in a STEM school. This includes experience having taught at the college level.
Though it is preferred that candidates either have a PhD or a terminal degree in a related field, consideration will be given to candidates with substantial publications or experience equivalent to a terminal degree. Candidates who can teach composition as well as literature and public presentation skills are encouraged to apply. Instructors are responsible for a 4/3 teaching load of lower and upper division writing classes.
