Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center is seeking a visionary and dynamic individual to join the nonprofit agency as a Deaf Mentor in the Fort Myers area. (Agency serves five counties) Principal Duties As a Deaf Mentor you will: Provide services to deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals, ages birth to adult, in the areas of American Sign Language (ASL) and deaf culture. Prepare and write lesson plans. Perform weekly visits to schools as part of the school districts' deaf programs, and provide models for parents of the activities to be worked on with children during the week. Teach on-site and/or zoom classes to deaf individuals, including but not limited to driver's license, citizenship, independent living skills, and others, as needed Help families and individuals access deaf community activities and events. Establish positive relationships and build trust with Deaf Community as liaison to agency. Apply bilingual, bicultural teaching methods to deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals. Help build existing Deaf Mentor Program with new, creative, and innovative ideas. Assist with other agency activities as needed.
