ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • 3 years of experience (Combined teaching, trainer and occupational) in the health information technology field is required for Medical Billing Program, coupled with RHIT/RHIA credential in the health information technology field is required for the AAS in HIT
  • Knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System, preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required
  • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

Job Description


The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for planning, preparing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating classroom instruction in the areas of medical coding. Other responsibilities include participating in online course and curriculum development and evaluation, and attending events and/or programmatic meetings as agreed upon or designated by the Program Director.

The adjunct member must demonstrate knowledge of HIM processes, procedures, regulations, information technology applications, knowledge of CAHIIM standards, and aligning course competencies and student learning outcomes of HIM courses with CAHIIM domains.


Required Qualifications


This position requires an AHIMA credential and a demonstrated commitment to teaching in the online classroom.

The preferred candidate will have college-level teaching experience, coursework specializing in Health Information Technology and expertise working in the Health Information Technology field.

Demonstration of developing effective relationships that mentor and advise students for academic and career success

Ability to work with a diverse student population

The adjunct faculty member provides instruction for students enrolled in the online Health Information Technology program in the Health Professions Division. Must be competent to teach courses in ICD-10 and CPT Coding and any other topics as related to the discipline. Reports directly to the Program Director of Health Information Technology.
