FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Tennessee College of Applied Technology Shelbyville is accepting applications for an AdjunctInstructor-Heating Ventilation Air-Conditioning Refrigeration (HVACR) Technology position. The position is part-time, Monday through Thursday, and is located at the Main Campus, 2905 Highway 231 North, Shelbyville, TN.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students to prepare them for careers in HVACR.
Deliver and demonstrate instruction in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration in both classroom and lab settings.
Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual students' progress.
Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports.
Assist in recruitment and placement of students.
Maintain good public relations with business and industry and maintain an active advisory board.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).
EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
Associate degree or diploma from an accredited technical training program in the related field preferred.
3+ years of approved work experience in the HVACR occupation:
Experience as an HVACR Technician in industrial, residential, and/or commercial HVAC systems, including installation and service.
Technical teaching experience a plus.
Proficient in the principles and practices of the HVACR industry.
Skilled in using industry-standard tools and equipment.
Capable of teaching students safety, tools and materials, installation, troubleshooting, and repairing various commercial and HVACR systems.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other common software programs.
Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills for effective teaching.
EPA Universal Certification preferred.
Ability to work effectively with high school and adult learners and to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, faculty, industry partners, and the public.
Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy a plus.

Duties include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in nuclear engineering-related subjects, generating externally funded research, advising graduate students, writing scholarly journal articles, and providing service to the department, college, university, and professional community. Applicants must have a doctorate in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related field by the effective date of appointment.
Applicants should be able to contribute to existing courses and research activities in nuclear engineering, as well as to develop new avenues of research and teaching. Specific areas of expertise sought in this search include nuclear science and engineering relevant to aerospace and defense applications but candidates with strong potential to contribute to the three signature capabilities of our department may also be considered. These departmental signature strengths include the following: ensuring the sustainability and future expansion of nuclear power; radiation detection, nuclear security and non-proliferation; and radiological engineering, nuclear chemistry and medicine, and medical physics. About the College
The University of Tennessee Nuclear Engineering Department is part of the Tickle College of Engineering, which has the fastest growing PhD program among the Top 40 public colleges of engineering. The department has a diverse research portfolio and is the largest Nuclear Engineering PhD program in the United States with over 120 PhD students and $15.6M in research expenditures for the 2024-2025 academic year. Research Areas of Interest
We seek candidates with research expertise in ultra-high temperature alloys for high-Mach flight and space system applications. The successful candidate is expected to advance fundamental understanding of how alloy design, processing, and characterization control microstructure, chemistry, and performance of UHTAs under extreme environments, with potential applications in aerospace and defense. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
· Alloy design and discovery of UHTAs (e.g., refractory alloys, creep- and oxidation-resistant systems).
· Processing science, including advanced manufacturing, powder metallurgy, and directional solidification of UHTAs.
· Thermomechanical and environmental degradation mechanisms (creep, fatigue, oxidation, corrosion).

GENERAL DUTIES: Adjunctinstructors provide classroom support on an as-needed basis, sometime with little advance notice. This position should ensure student training is conducted utilizing all appropriate safety measures. The adjunctinstructor will facilitate continued training for students in the absence of a full-time instructor. Potential applicants with varied work experience may qualify to facilitate in more than one program.
SALARY: Commensurate with Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
