JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Lead Instructor of Technical Services to join our team in Seattle, Washington.
This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep, hands-on expertise in commercial HVAC/R systems, electrical infrastructure, and building automation/controls. This leader will be responsible for supervising a multi-faceted FCTA training center as well as teaching technicians and supporting their career growth.
First Coast Technical Academy training facility is located at a Boeing facility. It includes travel up to 25% to support regional teams, training centers, and field operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the daily operations and strategic direction of the technical training center, ensuring high-quality instruction and facility readiness.
Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple trades including HVAC/R, electrical systems, and controls
Conduct training of technicians, and trains and supervise a small cadre of support instructors
Support the growth of technical training staff through mentorship, coaching, and performance development initiatives.
Help develop and execute technical training programs, ensuring alignment with evolving technologies, safety standards, and operational goals
Facilitate advanced support and oversight for BAS/EMS systems, including digital/analog I/O, system integration, and programming logic.
Assist with complex diagnostics, commissioning, and system optimization in the field as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HVAC/R, electrical, and controls, including 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role.
Minimum 5 years of experience training technicians in technical skills related to their job requirements.
Deep knowledge of commercial HVACR systems, electrical distribution, and building automation platforms.
Proficiency in BAS/EMS systems, digital and analog I/O, and programming for HVAC and energy systems.
Must hold or have held a valid journeyman or trade license in HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical (Washington State or transferable).
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and influence technical strategy.
Experience designing or overseeing technical training programs is highly desirable.
Willingness to travel up to 25% to support field teams and training initiatives.

About the Department
WWU College of the Environment Western on the Peninsulas programs provide off-campus degree programs designed with a flexible schedule (evening hours) for working adults and offers three bachelor's degrees as follows: BA in Environmental Studies (emphasis either in Geographic Information Systems or in Environmental Science); BA in Natural Resource Management; and BS in Environmental Science. A full list of degrees/certificates is listed online. Classes in the degree programs are held during evening hours (after 5:00 p.m.). The classrooms are networked across two sites at Port Angeles and Poulsbo. A class held at any of these sites is connected via Interactive Teleconferencing to the two other sites. Hence any single cohort/class of our students is typically spread across three sites.

This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. The successful candidate(s) will have an FTE commensurate with the assigned workload. For context, one 5-credit course is equivalent to 33.33% FTE and one lab is 16.67% FTE. The full-time (100%) base salary is $6,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This full-time monthly rate is then prorated based on assigned FTE for the duration of the 3-month quarter.
Appointments are made on a quarterly (3-month) basis that are renewable on a quarterly basis, and are contingent upon instructional needs, part time faculty reappointment guidelines, and Department approval. Appointment service dates align with the annual academic calendar. Autumn: September 16-December 15; Winter: December 16-March 15; and Spring: March 16-June 15.

Salary: $1,000 per credit* Classification: Adjunct Faculty Reports to: Dean of Business, Information Technology & Transitional Studies This adjunct faculty position will teach Business & Accounting Transfer course(s) in accordance with the college catalog and departmental guidelines, contingent upon skill requirements, in one or more of the following areas: Accounting 201, 202 or 203, Business Finance, Business Law, Business Statistics, Introduction to Business, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. The adjunct faculty member must be able to teach in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, or online. Experience using Canvas as the Learning Management System and/or the willingness to learn it is of importance.
* Provide quality teaching, including related preparation and grading.
* Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested.
* Maintain and provide accurate and complete course and student records in a professional and timely manner.
* Availability to teach day and/or evening classes using the following modalities: face-to-face, online, hybrid/hyflex.
* Maintain clear and punctual communication with students, faculty, and staff.
* Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

* Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a closely related field.
* Successful teaching or professional experience.
* Successful organizational experience in a business-related field including finance, accounting, business management, or economics.
* Proficient with the technology necessary to teach online or partially online courses and the ability to learn and use instructional technology such as Canvas.
Desired Qualifications
* Three years of successful college teaching experience.
* Five years of progressively responsible organizational experience relevant to a business-related field including finance, accounting, business management, or economics.
* Competency-based curriculum development experience.

Terms of Employment

Final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits.
This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments, including travel to clinical sites, may be a part of the instructional load.
Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire. Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. Reporting to the campus Dean of Academic Affairs, the adjunct faculty member is an important part of our academic community. The primary role of this position is to provide college-level instruction and academic-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable student success. Working closely with the campus Associate Dean of Academics and the Department Coordinator/Program Director, adjuncts are issued a part-time, temporary term-to-term assignment.
Essential Functions/Duties
* Teach courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures, as well as Basic Course Information sheets.
* Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.
* Organize class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the course.
* Provide input and work with other faculty and staff to review, produce and/or select course-related materials.
