Job Summary: Tenure-track research position for investigators with proven skills in conducting original research in the field of cancer microenvironment, including adult, pediatric, primary, or metastatic cancers. This position is supported by the SUNY Empire Innovation Program. Candidates must have a strong record of innovative research, impactful publications, extramural funding aligned with their career stage, and a clear vision for long-term growth of their research program. All areas of research will be considered, with thematic preference for Central Nervous System and genitourinary tumors that can leverage extensive resources at SUNY Upstate. Successful candidates will join a community of oncology, cell biology, and neuroscience investigators with strengths in genomics, cytoskeleton, neural environment, biomechanics, cancer molecular and cellular biology, and population studies. Candidates are expected to develop a research program in cancer microenvironment that will combine strengths from multiple topic areas to attract further talent and continued funding support. Their research program will be supported by state-of-the art core facilities for genomics, proteomics, advanced microscopy, and tumor biobanking. Candidates will carry the titles of Associate or Full Professor (rank dependent upon qualifications) and Empire Innovation Scholar. They will have primary appointment in a basic-science or clinical department matching their research program, and further affiliation as members of the SUNY Upstate Cancer Center. RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. General
The faculty consists of all individuals in the employ of Northeast College holding academic rank and engaged in instructional, scholarly and professional, or academic service activities for the College. These activities include, but are not limited to: laboratory, classroom, online, and health center instruction; work of professional librarians; course and curriculum development; research; participation in student advising, enrollment management functions, College governance; and service to one's profession.
B. Teaching
• Each instructor is responsible for planning and presenting course material; establishing course objectives and requirements, and communicating them to students; selecting and ordering texts and supplemental materials; preparing, administering and grading papers and examinations; and assigning grades without discrimination, in accordance with the nondiscrimination policy as it appears in the College catalog.
• Specific responsibilities include providing students with appropriate, current course material consistent with the overall curriculum; assuring student comprehension and competency; and providing unbiased outcome assessments.
• Demonstrates mastery of the following characteristics and traits: command and analytical approach to subject matter, recognition and evaluation of variant interpretations of appropriate data, and integration of current knowledge within the field into traditionally accepted subject matter.
• Clearly explain expectations and subject matter, recognize student levels of comprehension, define objectives, summarize major points, organize material logically, and emphasize important ideas.
• Encourage student participation and interaction, be sensitive to class response, deal with students ethically, allot ample time for consultation, and seek a professional rapport with student.

C. Research and Scholarly Activities
Activities in this area are typically project-oriented: basic science or clinical research, authorship of a book or journal article, and scholarly media productions within one's area of expertise.
D. Citizenship
Citizenship takes many forms, depending upon individual interests, and all faculty are encouraged to lend their talents to benefit the College community, the professional and/or academic community, and the local community.

• Possess earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the field in which they are teaching from an accredited institution.

Major Responsibilities
* Fulfillment of all responsibilities/duties of a supervisor as outlined in the Student Teaching Handbook, department orientation, training and university communications.

Minimum qualifications for appointment at Rank of Assistant Professor:
Master's degree in Automotive Technology (or a closely-related field*), with at least 3 years of related experience; OR
Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology (or closely-related field*) with industry-recognized certifications, with at least 3 years of related experience;
OR
Associate Degree in Automotive Technology and industry-recognized certifications, with at least 10 years of industry-related experience;
OR
Automotive industry experience, industry-recognized training, and industry-recognized certifications, with at least 20 years of industry-related experience.
*Related Fields include Automotive, Commercial/Heavy Equipment, Electrical, Mechanical, System Engineering, Technology Education (CTE, Vocational, etc)

Demonstrated connections with local industry.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Additional Information:
The 2023-2024 starting salary for the rank of Assistant Professor is $56,250 based on a 15-credit teaching load per fall and spring semester. Additional compensation available for teaching additional courses. Salaries for 2024-2025 are not yet available.

Biology seeks enthusiastic and engaging adjunct instructors for day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments. Need varies by semester (continuous recruitment) but is often for instructors qualified to teach Anatomy & Physiology (BIO-171 and/or BIO-172, for allied health and pre-allied health majors); Introductory/ non-majors biology courses (BIO-105, BIO-106, BIO-121); or General Biology (BIO-151/152, for majors). Occasionally, a need for a Microbiology (BIO-205) or Ecology (BIO-131) may arise.
Biology instructors at OCC often teach both the lecture and laboratory components of a course and are expected to develop their own course materials (e.g. lecture materials, assignments, quizzes, and exams), with the guidance of senior faculty, following college approved course outlines for learning outcomes, grading scales, etc.. Typically, a teaching assignment involves a lecture section that meets twice a week, plus one or two associated lab sections that meet once a week (comprised of the same students from lecture).
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master's degree (or higher) in a relevant biological discipline from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalency, or a professional degree in an appropriate medical profession (e.g. MD, DO, DVM). A Master's in education is not considered equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Teaching experience, particularly at the community college or introductory college level, especially as the sole or lead instructor.
* Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.
