The Learning Assistance Department offers College Success classes that help students navigate educational systems, manage their own physical, social, and psychological wellness, and apply study strategies to college-level courses. College Success classes guide students in navigating higher education including accessing resources to achieve their academic and life goals. The three-unit LERN 50: College Success meets CCSF graduation requirements and is CSU and UC transferable. The Learning Assistance Department has Mentoring and Tutoring programs and classes that support students across credit disciplines as well as serving noncredit students.
This position would teach College Success (LERN 50 or other College Success classes) in-person at various sites depending on qualifications and departmental needs. This position may also instruct supervised tutoring and support mentoring and tutoring programs.
The ideal candidate will share the college's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population and be knowledgeable about culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging and retaining diverse communities who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional classrooms including parenting students.
Job Duties
1. The Psychology Department
The Psychology Department is seeking highly qualified candidates for adjunct instructor positions to teach psychology classes for our programs on-site at the Palo Alto and Mountain View campuses. A full list of courses taught in our program can be found in our course catalog. While we welcome all applicants, we are particularly interested in candidates who can teach the following areas of emphasis: Diversity and Community Mental Health, Pediatric Behavioral Care, and Research Methods and Statistics.
The Psychology Department has two APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral programs (a PhD program and the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium) and a master's program in Psychology. PAU operates an in-house community clinic, the Gronowski Center, and advanced students are placed at off-site practicum placements around the Bay Area, including VA Medical Centers, community clinics, and schools.
We are committed to build training programs that promote diversity from all areas of psychology. The work done through the Latinx Task Force, I4Health, and the undergraduate summer bridge program (funded by the APA CEMRRAT grant for ethnic minority recruitment, retention, and training of students in psychology) represent some of our current diversity work within the department.
