Regular faculty positions at Briar Cliff University are responsible for teaching, advising students, service to the University and community as well as scholarship. Faculty regularly collaborate with other academic departments, student admissions, athletics, financial aid and other supporting departments of the University. Most faculty positions require 9-month teaching assignments of 24 credit hours; some require 12-month teaching assignments. All faculty positions require responsiveness to email and University activities throughout the year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach assigned courses in specified discipline (Financial and Managerial, Income Tax, Auditing, Advanced and Cost Accounting, Economics and/or Finance).
Develop and deliver engaging and effective courses
Utilize innovative teaching methodologies, including technology integration, to enhance student learning.
Create and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
Develop and update course syllabi and materials.
Serve the University community.
Advise and mentor students, providing academic and career guidance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree with at least 18 credit hours in Accounting, Management, Finance or related area.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students
Demonstrated proficiency in teaching excellence, preferably at the university level.
The ability to work effectively and independently with limited supervision.
Proficiency with computer software: including but not limited to Microsoft Office, database, and electronic calendar

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals for the purposes of assessing program performance.

The University of South Dakota Department of Art is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Photography for a nine-month appointment beginning in August 2026. This position involves teaching film-based photography, alternative photographic processes, and digital photography at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within a dynamic BFA/MFA Art program. The candidate will engage in research, teaching, and service activities according to the guidelines of the South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR).
The USD Department of Art teaches photography as a means of artistic expression and has a longstanding strength in alternative and historical photographic processes. The ideal candidate is a practicing artist and educator able to teach both traditional and digital photography. About the Department
The Department of Art is housed in the College of Fine Arts at the University of South Dakota and offers both the BFA and MFA degrees in Art. As a NASAD accredited program, the Department of Art is recognized for our strong studio curriculum, visiting artist program, and accomplished alumni. Our department has approximately 100+ undergraduate majors, 10 graduate students and 10 full-time art faculty. Our facilities include studio classrooms in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, drawing and sculpture.

Key Responsibilities
I. Teaching & Performance
Coordinate the keyboard area (placement exams, class piano, applied lessons, etc.).
Teaching duties in keyboard studies, including applied piano lessons and class piano.
Accompany students in applied lessons.

Cultivate relationships with K-12 music educators, community music organizations, and private music instructors.
Track and assess recruitment outcomes to inform future initiatives.
III. Program Development
Collaborate with the Program Director of Music to enhance the curriculum and identify opportunities for program expansion and interdisciplinary partnerships.
Develop initiatives to strengthen the keyboard and collaborative piano areas, supporting long-term goals for future music majors.
Assist in the creation and coordination of a collegiate chamber music program and liturgical music opportunities.
Participate in planning conversations and initiatives that foster the continued growth and visibility of the music program.
Support and contribute to a collaborative, student-centered, and service-oriented culture aligned with Briar Cliff University's Franciscan mission and values.
IV. Artistic & Community Engagement
Serve as principal collaborative pianist and accompanist for departmental vocal and instrumental ensembles, rehearsals, and performances, working closely with the Director of Choral Activities and other ensemble directors.
Provide reliable and musically sensitive accompaniment for applied student lessons, juries, recitals, and faculty/guest performances.
Participate in departmental concert programming, which can include solo piano recitals.
Engage in outreach and partnership-building with local schools, community choirs, and arts organizations to promote the music program and support student recruitment.
Support campus ministries and other service-oriented musical activities in keeping with Briar Cliff University's Franciscan mission.
Represent the music program at professional, regional, or national events as appropriate, and assist with planning departmental performances, festivals, and masterclass events.
Maintain professional standards for rehearsal preparedness, score/library organization, and instrument care; coordinate scheduling needs for accompanist duties as required.
Work in close partnership with the Program Director to align community engagement efforts with recruitment and program-development goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in collaborative piano, piano pedagogy, piano performance, organ performance, or a related field. Equivalent related experience considered.
Demonstrated success in teaching at the collegiate or equivalent level (minimum of three years preferred).
A demonstrated record of excellence in accompanying ensembles and soloists (students and faculty).
A demonstrated record of excellence in piano pedagogy.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within music programs.
Preferred Qualifications
DMA, DM, or PhD from an accredited institution in collaborative piano, piano pedagogy, or piano performance (ABD with teaching experience considered).

Job Description: The Division of Teacher Residency and Education of the University of South Dakota's School of Education invites applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) or Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice (non-tenure track) of Teacher Education position. This is an on-campus, nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate coursework across the curriculum in teacher education. The successful candidates should also possess knowledge related to face-to-face, online, and other distance learning modalities. Additional assignments may be made based on the professional and academic background of the applicant to complement the strengths of Division faculty and to address the needs of students in programs within the Division of Teacher Residency and Education, School of Education, and university community. Coordinate the keyboard area (placement exams, class piano, applied lessons, etc.).

III. Program Development

Develop initiatives to strengthen the keyboard and collaborative piano areas, supporting long-term goals for future music majors.
Assist in the creation and coordination of a collegiate chamber music program and liturgical music opportunities.

IV. Artistic & Community Engagement
Serve as principal collaborative pianist and accompanist for departmental vocal and instrumental ensembles, rehearsals, and performances, working closely with the Director of Choral Activities and other ensemble directors.
Provide reliable and musically sensitive accompaniment for applied student lessons, juries, recitals, and faculty/guest performances.
Participate in departmental concert programming, which can include solo piano recitals.
Engage in outreach and partnership-building with local schools, community choirs, and arts organizations to promote the music program and support student recruitment.
Support campus ministries and other service-oriented musical activities in keeping with Briar Cliff University's Franciscan mission.
Represent the music program at professional, regional, or national events as appropriate, and assist with planning departmental performances, festivals, and masterclass events.
Maintain professional standards for rehearsal preparedness, score/library organization, and instrument care; coordinate scheduling needs for accompanist duties as required.
Work in close partnership with the Program Director to align community engagement efforts with recruitment and program-development goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in collaborative piano, piano pedagogy, piano performance, organ performance, or a related field. Equivalent related experience considered.
Demonstrated success in teaching at the collegiate or equivalent level (minimum of three years preferred).
A demonstrated record of excellence in accompanying ensembles and soloists (students and faculty).
A demonstrated record of excellence in piano pedagogy.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within music programs.
