Nick Leschly has served as our chief bluebird since September 2010. Formerly, Nick was a partner and founding member of Third Rock Ventures in 2007. Nick played an integral role in the overall formation, development and business strategy of several of Third Rock’s portfolio companies, including Agios Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Edimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to joining Third Rock, he worked at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, leading several early-stage drug development programs and served as the product leader for VELCADE. After receiving his PhD, MS and BS degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, he joined the Stanford Genome Technology Center (SGTC) in 2006 to work on low-cost DNA sequencing technologies. At SGTC, he developed the first semiconductor sequencing platform and first base-calling algorithm for next-gen sequencing. In 2007, he co-founded Avantome to commercialize a low-cost, high-performance next-gen sequencing platform to seed the democratization of next-gen sequencing. As its founding CEO, he led Avantome through two rounds of financing and through acquisition by Illumina in 2008. At Illumina, Helmy was Sr Director of Advanced Technology Research, where he developed novel chemistries, hardware and informatics for genetic analysis systems.

Anne E. Wojcicki (born July 28, 1973) is an American entrepreneur who co-founded and serves as CEO of the personal genomics company 23andMe.

Bob Kain is a renowned pioneer in genomics. At Illumina, Bob led the invention of the modern, high throughput genome sequencer that brought the cost from millions of dollars down to less than $1000. He joined Illumina pre-IPO in 1999 and retired in 2014, as the Chief Engineering Officer. Bob is lead inventor on 28 U.S. patents that led to the breakthroughs that have revolutionized genome sequencing. Prior to joining Illumina, Bob was the Director of the Microarray Business Unit at Molecular Dynamics. He is also on the Scientific Advisory Boards of Dovetail Genomics, Singular Genomics, and Edenroc Biosecurity, and is the co-founder of Revere Biosensor. Additionally, he is the co-founder and chairman of the board of a successful health & fitness business, Mesa Rim Climbing and Fitness Center, with multiple locations in San Diego and Reno, Nevada. Bob received a BS in Physics from San Diego State University and an MBA from Saint Mary’s College of California.
