Families First Inc adoption coordinator job description

FamiliesFirst Network of Lakeview (FFN) represents a partnership with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to provide an array of foster care and related services in coordination with network partners. The network includes DCF, Lakeview Center (as the lead agency), judiciary, sub-contracted service providers, foster parents, the Circuit 1 Community Alliance, agency stakeholders, and the community working together to implement the legislative mandate for community-based care. Services include: case management for out-of-home and in-home placements; foster home recruitment, training, recommendation for licensure, and support; adoption support; an independent living program; dependency court resource facilitation; sub-contract management; and other services related to abused and neglected children and their families.

This position is to provide adoption education and services for children and families in the child welfare system where there is a legal case goal of adoption. This position is responsible for assessing the child's and family's adoption readiness and offering support or interventions to ensure permanency is obtained for the child in a physically and emotionally safe and stable environment.

The position requires the ability to communicate effectively with children, youth, families, partners and providers regarding the adoption process and requirements. Assignments/tasks are to be executed with considerable independence and maintain compliance with established agency policies and procedures, contract requirements, and federal and state regulations/laws.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or a Master's degree. The following related degrees will be accepted: Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Education, Human Sciences, Law, Behavioral Sciences, Human Development, Psychology, Social Policy, Sociology, Public Administration, Education, Community Development, Health Science, Political Science, Interdisciplinary Studies, Child and Society and Criminal Justice/Criminology.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software.

Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside, must have a good driving record and be insurable under LCI's policy.

Must receive passing score on the Introduction to Child Protection written assessment and field based assessment within one (1) year of employment.

Hiring Range: This position is anticipated to start at $19.76 per hour.

Coordinators are responsible for the daily functions and growth of lifesaving outcome programs including adoptions, transports/transfers, medical needs, and foster care of animals in our program locations. They act with urgency to accomplish important tasks and play a direct role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society's no-kill mission and organizational success. While this role includes responsibilities in all outcome-focused programs, coordinators may receive intensive assignments in a particular program, based on organizational needs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

* Promote, coordinate, and facilitate mobile, remote, and on-site pet adoptions, providing superior customer service, new pet parent counseling, and post-adoption support throughout.
* Coordinate and conduct transport program operations including but not limited to animal selection, travel logistics (flight bookings, driving/driver recruitment, vehicle preparation), records management, supply management, and vehicle management.
* Develop a general knowledge of the animals in the Best Friends' care; deliver superior customer service, assist adopters, fosters, and transfer partners by gathering information to match them with appropriate animals, arranging introductions, pet to pet meets; acquiring/providing medical records, health certificates (when necessary), follow-ups as needed or required.
* Work directly with and support volunteers on all aspects and protocols of lifesaving care and outcome programs, including program protocols, cleaning protocols, specific animal behavior, and care, animal handling, transportation requirements and procedures, data entry, and communications with the goal of maximizing meaningful volunteer contributions.
* Work collaboratively with Best Friends' team members in all areas of operations to achieve lifesaving goals; follow Best Friends policies, procedures, and task lists for daily lifesaving outcome assignments, including accurate and timely communications, work completion, data entry, and recordkeeping.

Skills and Experience:

* Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with adopters, partners, visitors, volunteers, and colleagues; familiarity and comfort with an open adoption process.
* Previous experience supporting adoption and foster programs preferred.
* Ability to work with, leash, kennel, walk, and handle all cats and dogs, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns; basic ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics of dogs and cats.
* Bilingual or multi-lingual skills preferred but not required.
* Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; an initiative to assist in any area or process; problem-solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; the flexibility to persist until lifesaving outcome goals are achieved.
* Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

Physical Requirements:

* Must be able to:
* Routinely lift 40 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.
