We require:
Clean, valid NYS driver's license.
Prior experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical or other related building trades.
The ability to work at various heights while using extension ladders to access roofs, lighting etc., and ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Verbal/written communication skills including the ability to provide or obtain information, to interpret and advise to clarify understanding.
Strong reasoning skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
HS Diploma preferred
This is a full-time position (Monday - Friday 8am - 3:30pm) and requires travel to locations throughout Suffolk and Nassau using Agency vans.

Duties Description Tasks include paving, patching, right-of-way maintenance, underdrain installation, shoulder and slope restoration, crack pouring, drainage structure repair, repair and erection of fences, lighting, guide rails, delineators and signs. Duties Description The Thruway Maintenance Worker (TMW), under the supervision of Thruway Maintenance Supervisors 1 or 2 journey-level trades worker, works alone or as a member of a team performing maintenance, repair, improvement and reconstruction of pavements, shoulders, medians, rights-of-way, facilities, ramps, interchanges, bridges, culverts, water control and other structures, appurtenances and retaining walls.

2 Loads and unloads tools, construction materials, and equipment onto trucks to ensure necessary tools are available for repairs to be made.

4 Drives equipment to transport tools, equipment, supplies or material to and from the work sites and locations; cuts grass, removes litter and weeds, cleans floors and facility grounds to maintain upkeep of facility, street medians, and vacant lots removing any hazards and ensuring safety of tenants.
5 Ensures playground and public equipment is in safe and functional order; performs repairs to meet regulations and standards; maintains and monitors sports fields and surrounding areas.
6 Performs preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operating conditions.
7 Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction; handles hazardous or dangerous situations with professionalism and efficiency.

Duties Description The Thruway Maintenance Worker (TMW), under the supervision of Thruway Maintenance Supervisors 1 or 2 journey-level trades worker, works alone or as a member of a team performing maintenance, repair, improvement and reconstruction of pavements, shoulders, medians, rights-of-way, facilities, ramps, interchanges, bridges, culverts, water control and other structures, appurtenances and retaining walls.
Incumbents may perform snow and ice control activities; operate and perform maintenance and minor repairs on a variety of self-propelled pneumatic and other equipment; and may serve as a team leader and provide guidance and instruction to others.
Duties require medium to heavy physical effort, shift work, call outs, scheduled and unscheduled overtime, exposure to adverse weather conditions, standing for prolonged periods of time, working in non-permit required confined spaces, at high levels, and will also require use of personal safety equipment, including respirators.
Minimum Qualifications Thruway Maintenance Worker Trainee Levels:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
TMW Trainee 1 level: 156-week Traineeship:
A. Possession of a valid NYS Commercial Driver License Class B Permit with tank endorsement and no air brake restriction
TMW Trainee 2 level: 104-week Traineeship:
A. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no airbrake restriction, and six (6) months of experience operating construction equipment and vehicles, and twelve (12) months of experience in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork, or other trade related to bridge construction or repair; or
B. A valid Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no airbrake restriction, and eighteen (18) months of experience operating construction equipment and vehicles.
TMW Trainee 3 level: 52-week Traineeship:
Possession of a NYS Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no airbrake restriction AND 12 months of experience in operating construction equipment and vehicles; AND 18 months of experience in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork, or other trade related to bridge construction or repair.
TMW Journey Level - 52-week probation required:
Possession of a NYS Commercial Driver License Class B with tank endorsement and no airbrake restriction AND 12 months of experience in operating construction equipment and vehicles; AND 24 months of experience in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork or other trade related to bridge construction or repair.

ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:
The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:
Base Pay Range from Hiring Rate $25.09 up to Job Rate $29.40.
Location Pay: $0.85 for Mid-Hudson
Geographic Pay: $3.37
This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this traineeship are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate's salary at the time of hire.
