Position Summary
In this position you will collaborate with the Regulatory Compliance and Safety teams to facilitate activities necessary for national and international product performance standards and requirements for global market access. As the Functional Safety subject matter expert, you will be ensuring that Banner products conform to applicable requirements, through product evaluations, components/materials selection, testing, documentation, and product labeling. A functional safety compliance engineer duties also involve facilitating risk assessments, defining safety requirements, developing safety analysis methods, to prevent harm from potential electronic or mechanical failures.
This position reports to Director of Regulatory Compliance.
What You'll Be Doing

Key Responsibilities
Interpret technical drawings, schematics and other design and assembly documents.
Advise teams on solutions for global market access of Banner Products.
Keep abreast of changes in product performance standards; monitor national/international standards via drafts and standards committee meeting minutes for IEC, UL, FM, CCC, ATEX, and other product performance standards.
Define and document safety requirements that ensure products meet safety standards and minimize risk.
Work closely with design, software, hardware, and testing teams to integrate safety into product development and ensure compliance throughout the lifecycle.
Create and maintain necessary work products, documentation, test procedures, and verification methods to demonstrate compliance.
Debug and troubleshoot safety non-conformities and implement root cause analysis for product issues.
Interface with regulatory bodies and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) to secure compliance certificates.
Maintain corporate sources of truth, technical files, and metrics reporting.
Provide guidance to the design teams for new and existing product performance verification tests.
Coordinate the agency work with the various product development teams and compile the required records for agency submittal per the project schedule.
Provide input and expertise as needed for business process improvement initiatives.

Required
Minimum of associate's degree in a technical field (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred)
5-7 years of Regulatory Compliance experience
Preferred experience obtaining certifications through Underwriters Laboratories (UL), preference for someone who worked at UL, FM, TUV, etc.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required to address all levels of the organization
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively handle multiple projects/priorities with strong attention to detail
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
3-5 experience with; Machinery Directive, Medical Directive, Connectivity, or Functional Safety Standards.
Experience with facilitating hazard analysis, failure mode analysis, and risk assessments to identify potential safety risks in products and systems.
Familiarity with UL flame ratings.
Familiarity working in ISO 9001 or 17025 environments
Conformance testing experience in a lab environment performing electromechanical testing (EMC) and troubleshooting
Experience with design and selection of materials and/or electronic components

Responsibilities
Lead and optimize process improvements, equipment qualifications, and implement solutions to improve yield, reduce scrap, and enhance productivity.
Monitor and continuously improve manufacturing processes, achieving performance goals such as less than 3% scrap and over 99% product performance perfection.
Identify cost reduction opportunities and implement profit improvement measures across processes and materials.
Ensure timely technical support for production, engineering, and quality teams.
Develop and manage comprehensive process documentation that ensures safety, quality, and reproducibility.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product introductions (NPI) and ensure compliance with all relevant standards (e.g., NADCAP, AS9100).
Implement preventive maintenance plans to maximize equipment uptime and performance.
Ensure adherence to all safety standards and company policies.

Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in PCB / flexible circuit / heater fabrication and related processes, such as lamination, laser processing, photolithography.
Fine wire experience is a plus.
Strong project management skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with risk, failure, and statistical analysis tools, as well as ERP systems and Microsoft applications.

The Manufacturing Engineer will provide manufacturing engineering support to manufacturing lines producing Class III long term implantable medical devices. The manufacturing operations involved may include the following:

Position Responsibilities:
Daily interaction with the manufacturing teams providing hands-on support and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes and equipment. Provide detailed engineering analysis and documentation in the management of material disposition, manufacturing process updates, qualification activities, compliance activities, and CAPA's. Work with the calibration and maintenance groups to ensure that equipment maintenance and calibration is completed on time.
Perform Equipment Installation, Mfg Process Characterization, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) activities, as well as Software Validation and Test Method Validation for manufacturing equipment and processes. Generate all related documentation in compliance with internal and external requirements.
Support manufacturing facility transfer and product transfer activities to offshore facilities.
Develop technical solutions to difficult problems, finding solutions that are thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives.
Ensure personal understanding of all applicable quality policy and quality system procedural requirements. Complete required training on time.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• BS in Engineering
• 5 years minimum engineering experience in the medical device field
• Experience with manufacturing process qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), Software Validation, and Test Method Validation
• Experience with the FDA QSR and ISO13485
