The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Anesthesia is seeking a full time Critical Care Hospitalist (PA or ARNP) to provide care for patients who require hospitalization for the detection and treatment of illnesses within the Surgical and Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (SNICU).
Duties include:
* Assess the health status of patients through history taking and physical examination. Order and interpret appropriate medical tests and laboratory values to assist in making a diagnosis. Prescribe drugs and medical devices used for patient intervention.
* Collaborate with other health care providers to provide and coordinate care given in the SNICU. Assist in the education of residents and medical students rotating through the SNICU.
* Document patient encounters, assessments, diagnoses and plans of care in the medical record.
* Provide information and counseling to patients and families
* Assess and order therapies as appropriate for patients undergoing treatment in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Facility
* Monitor and intervene as indicated in patients undergoing treatment in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Facility
* This position does include the responsibility to take call

Education and Certification Requirements:
* ARNP- A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
* PA- Graduation from an accredited PA educational program. Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
Required Experience:
* Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Occupational Health Nurse Certification or similar Certification preferred. 2 years' experience in providing required services in a psychiatric setting preferred. Current CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
