What You'll Do
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Optical System TestEngineer to join our hardware engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of test and validation plans for advanced optical sub-systems, including PICs, linear drivers, linear TIAs, and DSPs, supporting next-generation high-speed optical transceivers and photonic systems. This role is critical in bridging the gap between R&D and productization, ensuring that our optical components and sub-systems meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute test plans for validating the performance and functionality of:
Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs)
High-speed optical drivers
Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIAs)
DSPs
Characterize optical and electrical performance metrics such as insertion loss, extinction ratio, jitter, gain, bandwidth, and SNR.
Set up and automate optical/electrical test stations using high-speed instrumentation and scripting tools (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.).
Work with cross-functional teams (photonic design, analog/RF design, packaging, firmware) to define test requirements and optimize test coverage.
Conduct stress, reliability, and environmental testing (temperature cycling, aging, vibration) for optical components and assemblies.
Perform high-speed eye diagram analysis, TDECQ, RIN, and receiver sensitivity testing.
Develop automation frameworks for regression testing and continuous validation in both lab and production environments.
Analyze test results and generate detailed reports to support design reviews and product qualification.

Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transfer test procedures and support volume production test development.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in optical system or component-level testing.

Compensation Information
The new hire base pay for this role has a salary range of $150,000 to $230,000. Arista offers different pay ranges based on work location, so that we can offer consistent and competitive pay appropriate to the market. The actual base pay offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and work location. The pay range provided reflects base pay only and in addition certain roles may also be eligible for discretionary Arista bonuses and equity. In this role, Staff Systems TestEngineer will be part of a team responsible for the performance validation of Tarana's wireless products. Our ideal candidate is a hands-on, self-driven engineer with a solid understanding of system-level performance metrics and their connection to user experience, a drive to deliver high-quality hardware and software products, an aptitude for troubleshooting complex systems, and a strong working knowledge of wireless technology from the PHY/MAC layer perspective.
What You'll Do:
Design and develop system test plans for product features, and independently implement automation test scripts in collaboration with systems engineers and software developers.
Define, implement, and tune key performance indicators that reliably catch performance shortfalls while minimizing false alarms. Expose these metrics through dashboards to enable the automated tracking of release progress.
Perform daily performance regression analysis, not limited to features you own, and identify whether the failures are software regressions, hardware/platform dependent, or test fixtures specific. Proactively address all types of issues.
Critically analyze failures and independently narrow down the root cause of issues by analyzing performance figures and logs, which requires a deep understanding of the system and its modules.
Review daily pipelines and assist in identifying and fixing pipeline infrastructure issues. Assess if test fixtures are running at capacity, identify deficiencies in the test scheduling, and contribute to the development and validation of improvements to the overall test machinery.
Support the timely SW and HW product release process, interfacing closely with systems engineers, software engineers, and program managers.
What You'll Need:
B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, M.S. preferred with a focus on wireless communications and signal processing.
10+ years of experience in wireless device and system verification.
Working experience with OFDM wireless system development and validation, preferably with LTE/5G-NR, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/ad/ay.
Ability to design, develop, and implement automation solutions in Python from scratch (not just modifying existing code)
Ability to learn complex systems quickly and be willing to face new challenges.
Strong triage and analysis skills to diagnose and resolve product issues.
Discipline to execute on daily/high-cadence deliverables in an organized fashion.
Excellent analytical skills and a go-getter attitude
Experience with TCP/UDP traffic generation tools, traffic testing, and protocol-level debugging
Working experience with Linux systems, Git, GitLab, and Jira
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Draw EGSE harnessing and test system diagrams for production testing (Visio, SolidWorks, etc.)
Plan and write automated testing programs at both the module and vehicle level
Work with design engineers to debug, test, and implement changes to hardware
Write, review, and execute qualification and acceptance test plans
Develop and refine manufacturing assembly procedures based on lessons learned to mature status
Support Software Regression testing on modules and complete systems
Support test systems for environmental testing with thermal chambers, vibration tables, and thermal vacuum chambers.
Working in a cleanroom on flight hardware for extended periods
Occasional travel off-site for testing and integration at customer facilities
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline
5+ years of experience (internship time is counted) as a test or manufacturing engineer supporting highly integrated cross-disciplinary assembly operations
Additional Differentiators
Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
Experience with build integration and testing of propulsion, thermal, electrical, and structural systems, including, but not limited to, vibration, shock, thermal, vacuum, and radiation testing
5+ years of experience in test system design (Electrical & Mechanical)
5+ years of experience in harness manufacturing and design
Familiarity with PXI architecture
Familiarity with PCI/PCIe architecture
Knowledge of test instrumentations ( i.e. thermocouples, thermal chambers, accelerometers, DAQs, NI Chassis, ect.)
Documentation and configuration management experience
Experience writing test plans and procedures and providing go/no-go judgment
Experience in a production environment within the aerospace industry
Experience working in a laboratory setting, particularly a cleanroom with ESD precautions
Experience with electrical debugging of PCB Assemblies, including the ability to read electrical schematics
Programming in Python, LabVIEW, bash/shell script, or C
U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance
