Advertising Specialty Institute company history timeline

1950

In 1950, promotional product salesman Joseph Segel created his own directory called the Advertising Specialty Register and started the company Advertising Specialty Institute.

1962

The company was sold to Maurice Cohn in 1962, who dedicated his career to improving and expanding ASI. Joe Segal went on to establish QVC and the Franklin Mint.

1964

In 1964, the company was sold to Maurice Cohn, whose family still owns the company today.

1967

Norman Cohn was named ASI's chairman of the board in 1967 and remains active in the company.

1972

From 1972 until coming to ASI, Steve Bright was a partner in the Iowa law firm of Phelan, Tucker, Mullen, Bright and Walker.

1988

In 1988, Cohn led the team that developed ESP®, which quickly became the advertising specialty industry's most widely used research tool and business platform.

2003

In 2003, he received the Award of Merit from the Philadelphia Art Alliance and is currently a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.

2016

In 2016, he was recognized with PPAI's Pioneer Award, which recognizes people whose business acumen or technological skills played a role in the advancement of the promotional products industry.

2018

She’s won numerous journalism awards, including prestigious national Jesse H. Neal Awards for a cover story on economic and cultural shifts in China and its impact on the promo industry and for Best Profile on the 2018 Counselor Person of the Year.
