Bob Hogan is the leader of the trust business and brings to the company over 30 years of financial services experience including financial planning, brokerage, banking, asset management, philanthropic, family office, and, of course, trust services. Bob joined the company from CertusBank in late 2014 and has worked with state regulators in Tennessee to form the new trust company: Advocacy Trust.

Bob started his career at Price Waterhouse in New York City where he mainly supported financial service companies. In his sixth year with the firm, he was selected for a two-year tour of duty in the firm’s Brussels, Belgium office.

After returning from Europe and earning his CPA, Bob came back to New York City as a Senior Manager for Price Waterhouse and was on the partner track. Just prior to his tenth year, he was approached by Salomon Brothers to join their organization. They just had the Treasury Auction scandal and wanted a strong, control-minded person to join the firm and help clean things up. During his five years at Salomon Brothers, Bob rose to the position of General Auditor and was an administrative member of the Board of Directors.

In 1996, Bob was approached by NationsBank in North Carolina. The bank was building out an investment banking group and was looking for an experienced individual to help them in this effort. A few years after joining the team, NationsBank merged with Bank of America and Bob was asked to become the Chief Operations Officer of Banc of America Securities.

During Bob’s tenure within Banc of America Securities, he moved his operations group to the 81st floor of One World Trade Center in New York City. Bob was present on the floor with his management team the morning of September 11, 2001. After his team of 150 associates exited, Bob was one of the last to leave the building. It took him nearly 1 hour and 10 minutes to get out and step onto the street.

After nearly ten years with Bank of America/NationsBank, Bob was approach by the Chairman of Capitol Bancorp Ltd. who asked him to build out a wealth management business for the company. As President and CEO of Capitol Wealth Inc., Bob built out a successful and profitable full-service wealth management business in less than 5 years with over $1.5 billion in assets under management/assets under administration.

In 2010, Bob was approached by one of the founders of CertusBank who asked him to come aboard. Bob joined the team and began initiating his plan for building out a full-service wealth management business consisting of financial planning, brokerage, private banking, trust, insurance, asset management, and family office services.

Bob is a Certified Public Accountant, NASD Series 7 and 27 Registered, and Six Sigma certified. He is the founder and coordinator of the Crusader Lacrosse Club for Christ the King High School. Bob was also the Chairman of the Christ the King High School Athletic Association and has served as the Treasurer and Vice Chairman of Cannon School in Concord, NC.

Bob and his wife met in high school and have been married for over 30 years and have three children.
