The QA Tester II role supports our Software, Database, and Systems Engineering teams by testing our proprietary Image Generator (pc-Nova) through a combination of automated and manual testing. This position tests new + existing features in our IG to ensure that pc-Nova performs at high framerates on high-end hardware such as projectors, MR headsets, etc. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aechelon successfully transitioned to a Hybrid Work model for a majority of employees. Since the Runtime/Tools QA Tester position requires the use of in-office specialized hardware, including MR headsets and 120Hz testing configurations, the Hybrid Work requirement for this role consists of 2 days per week in-office at the company's South San Francisco location, while the remaining 3 days per week can be worked remotely from a home office. United States citizenship required due to restrictions on access to certain data. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following: Maintain the software and hardware components of our automated test system. Triage automated test error logs and gather additional information to write bug reports. Develop test plans and design automated tests using our proprietary test system. Perform manual testing on existing + new features for software releases. Research and report bugs in JIRA. Support test requests from engineers during product development by providing early testing of new features. Communicate with other team members across time zones. Be a resource for others to learn from about how to use our products. Help to document our runtime + integration tools for internal and external users. Minimum Qualifications: At least 4 years' experience with testing 3D graphics applications and/or content creation tools. Solid understanding of 3D graphics concepts. Good eye that can notice both technical and aesthetic problems with software. Proven ability to find bugs during manual testing, research them, and create well-documented bug reports. Experience with project management for software using Jira (or similar). Experience using command prompts (DOS, bash, etc.). Experience with authoring test plans and writing automated tests. Detail oriented with strong organizational and communication skills and tenacity to follow through. Eligibility to work with export-controlled technology. Bonus Points: Computer Science background with Python or C++ programming experience. Video Game testing experience. Experience with flight simulation software. Experience with VR or MR headset configuration/testing. Experience with Jira, Perforce, Visual Studio, Jenkins, Bash, GitHub. Experience writing technical documentation. Basic knowledge of 3D modeling, GIS, Geospatial or Geotypical content creation. $90,000 - $105,000 a year The above range is specific to CALIFORNIA and may not be applicable to other locations. The pay scale for this role is between $90,000 - $105,000. Final compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is to provide scientific guidance as a part of an experienced sensor-simulation development team working to create realistic radar simulations that target existing and emerging market applications. Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead research, development, and validation of physics-based models of RF energy propagation, scattering, and imaging, including Synthetic Aperture Radar, Inverse SAR, Doppler Beam Sharpening, and related coherent imaging techniques. Develop computational models and algorithms that simulate radar phenomenology, sensor behavior, and imaging artifacts in realistic training environments. Provide scientific direction in: RF system modeling and simulation Electromagnetic wave propagation, terrain/material interactions, and radar cross-section behavior Advanced SAR processing algorithms and image formation Modeling of environmental and platform motion effects on radar signals Atmospheric, terrain, structure and entity modeling in the infrared spectrum. Collaborate closely with software engineers to transition scientific models into real-time or near-real-time simulation software (primarily C/C++ on Windows and Linux). Produce technical documentation-including algorithms, models, assumptions, and validation approaches. Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements, present results, and guide sensor-modeling improvements. Assist in strategic research planning, technical risk assessment, and schedule estimation. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION: Significant experience in RF systems, electromagnetics, radar imaging, or closely related fields. Demonstrated expertise in radar signal processing and imaging algorithms (e.g., SAR/ISAR, matched filtering, motion compensation, interferometry). Strong background in applied physics, electromagnetic theory, and RF phenomenology.
